help me find some new tops - please.

I've been living in my mumsy tops form next for a few months and they are literally falling apart. I've never really liked next stuff on me but these were a desperate purchase as I had nothing to wear for the summer. I am appalled by the poor quality of them. One of them just shredded after about 2 months. I'm used to buying things from places like DP and their stuff always seems to last.

So anyway, I have wondered through quite a few shops and have no idea what I should go for.

I'm hoping some of you lovely ladies on here would be able to help me.

I've recently been fitted for a new bra so that's sorted size 34G. I'm 5'6" and a size 14 - 16 depending on where I try things on.

I'm quite hippy and live in jeans as they seem to hold my twice c-section pouch :(

I don't like clingy tops as they always show off my rolls of fat. I prefer sleeves to no sleeves as I don't have toned arms.

I am looking for everyday stuff to wear for things like the school run, popping to the shops, coffee mornings. I don't have a style other than frumpy mumsy but rather than tackle the whole kaboodle I'd like to start with tops, with your help please.

Thanks so much in advance.

No idea but watching with interest!

HavingAnOffDAy · 18/09/2012 12:33

Watching with interest too Grin

I'm 5'4 with 34G norks and am size 12/14.

I'm looking for fine knit, long line, loosish knitwear that I can dress up (and warm up) with scarves and add layers underneath, to wear with straight and skinny jeans and boots.

Please form an orderly queue with your fab suggestions Smile

Thanks

Hello. I am 5'2" and a size 12/14. I have 32G boobs too. My latest purchases for this season have been a couple of lovely tops in White stuff, long sleeved tee-shirt types. A couple of long sleeve tee-shirts and a Denim skirt from Gap and a Lazy Jack stripy jumper. I am looking for an everyday casual winter dress if anyone can recommend!

I have a couple of shirts I bought at the end of last season in the sale ready for this season, in Sea Salt. Also just picked up a lovely soft short sleeved cardigan in Dove grey in a Quba sale. (Bargain as it was £20 reduced from £70)

I usually like Monsoon and Phase Eight but have not looked at the Autumn collection yet. Oh yes, got a lovely padded gilet in Fat Face, perfect for the school run. Smile

Hi, I'm 5ft2, 34f, 12-14 on top and 14-16 on bottom. Had a c section 5 months ago and tummy is still sore.

I'm usually a size 12 (32e) and have been trying to shed the pounds since ds2 without a lot of success (too much cake). I'm desperate for some new stuff as have been living in linen trousers and maxi dresses over summer.

I popped to next this morning as couldn't be bothered to trail the shops and they do petite. I bought some dark slim leg jeans that where surprisingly flattering and comfy around tummy. They were not £20. I got a long black top too. I've seem a few longline shirt/blouses too that I think I'll get to wear with jeans. Will try to link

The Mint Velvet top really appeals to me.

Thanks so much everyone.

newpup, it sounds like you've done really well finding stuff in the sales. I'm terrible at shopping and sales are a nightmare for me.

Sandy, Next is so convenient isn't it? And I love that they do the next day delivery. The black top sounds nice so hope you're enjoying wearing your new clothes. :) I'm slightly envious :)

FauxFox, thanks for those links. I really like the Mango tops so will definitely go and have a look. Fingers crossed they look ok. Just out of interest, what sort of thing would you wear over these tops? It was a bit nippy earlier and some of the material looks like it wouldn't be very good at hiding cold nips Blush which I get very embarrassed about.

Thanks again to everyone for your help. I feel I can go to the shops and will head straight for the tops mentioned. Usually I wonder around aimlessly getting more and more and more confused, so thank you for saving me from that.

:)

Mumat39 I'll tell you a secret Wink. I have recently lost a huge amount of weight, best part of 6 stone. I used to hate clothes shopping but I have discovered a new hobby! Smile.

I am having to get used to being able to wear different styles of clothes and I am having so much fun! I am 4-5 dress sizes smaller now. I never shopped in Fat face or White Stuff before.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/09/2012 21:01

I got this recently - long enough to wear over skinnies and very flattering to norks with thin belt. Planning to wear a layering top underneath when it's cold!

mumat39 · 18/09/2012 21:03

Wow newpup! Congratulations and well done! That's brilliant. And what a reward to actually enjoy shopping. I hope you're treating yourself to lots of lovely things. Honestly, I could do with losing about 2 stones but can't get my lardy arse into gear. So I am really in awe of your achievement!

I like Fat Face and White stuff but alot of their fabrics just make me look huge. Or maybe they're just not good at disguising my bigger than it should be body.

Congrats again. That is seriously impressive!!! :)

Mumat39 - thanks. I can't find the top on the website. It was £16 and has studs on each shoulder. Its not something id normally pick but I was that desperate for some new clothes but didn't have a lot of time to shop that I just took a load of stuff into changing room. The shape is similar to the 'notch neck top' they do . The jeans are 'slim rinse'. I'd recommend them. I don't normally wear skinnies as I'm bottom heavy but these jeanse are really comfy and are high enough to hold my tummy in.

I've just ordered The soft military shirt in cream but in the tall so its long enough to wear over slim jeans. It's long at back and short at front. Tried it on today but it was too short at front in regular size. Also ordered khaki shirt dress.

I'm really conscious of my tummy at the mo so I'm mainly wearing a vest with an oversized tee and cardigan over top with jeans and flats.

Happy shopping Smile

mumat39 · 18/09/2012 22:05

Sandy, that soft shirt is lovely. I might have to get one too. :)

What colour vest would you wear under it?

OP posts:
FauxFox · 19/09/2012 07:11

mumat you could wear a vest under but tbh i'd get some t-shirt bras that are slightly padded to avoid the pea-smuggling look Wink

mumat39 · 19/09/2012 14:23

Thanks FauxFox.

Padded bra it is then. It's a bit cooler today so any tips on cardi's , jumpers or jackets to wear over the tops you linked to?

Thanks again. You're a star!!!

Statistically, that's a nice top. The other colour is sold out and I'm not brave enough to wear red Confused
