Tell me about Zara jackets or alternatives...

Walking past Zara the other day I was lured in by their winter jackets. Love both these jackets probably the first one more but DH doesn't like the price tag. Are Zara jackets amazing quality that this would be a god few year investment. Or are there good cheaper alternatives out there? Not buying winter boots this year as found a brown pair never worn so could justify it slightly but not sure. Also would be black in both. And were so cosy I didn't want to ate them off Envy

I have one from 2010.. It's a long one but it's so comfy and soft an really really warm !

noddyholder · 16/09/2012 11:36

They are lovely but you have to try on loads to check the fit they all seem different. I am not sure how waterproof they are compared to traditional winter down type coats but they are much nicer from a style POV.

ThePieSmuggler · 16/09/2012 11:38

Can't comment on what they would wear like as I've never bought anything from Zara (Blush not sure if this means I shouldn't be posting in s&b) but I love the second jacket, I have a thing for red winter coats!

I've found Zara very poor quality generally and the sizing is bonkers. Won't buy anything from there again.

germyrabbit · 16/09/2012 11:44

I don't think the quality is particulary bad but if you really want it hang on until the sales where it will probably be greatly reduced

boringnamechange · 16/09/2012 13:06

Ah bit of a mixed bag. Will keep my eye out for anything similar and not rush out.

Any idea when the sales are? After Christmas?

I bought a gorgeous down coat from Zara last year in sale, £80ish down to £20ish. It is utterly gorgeous and I love it, but it is not waterproof. Be warned.

I have a woollen cost from Zara. Still going after 7-8 years! Some stuff us great quality whereas other stuff is not

noddyholder · 16/09/2012 13:22

I have a wool coat from there this year so thats good to hear!

BieneMaja · 16/09/2012 13:32

For down filled coats, thats not a bad price really. I would say you need to try them on though - Zara sizing is pretty random...

suburbandweller · 16/09/2012 13:50

They are pretty well priced, but not great quality ime - I bought one like those you have linked to last winter and after wearing it about 5 times I discovered one of the sleeves had half come away from the body of the coat. Also agree with the posts above about the mad sizing - I'm a 6-8 usually but had to buy a medium in the coat and even that's snug when I have a jumper on underneath.

boringnamechange · 16/09/2012 14:05

Yes agree sizing I tried a small and medium and tbh didn't notice much difference but had my work stuff on so
Might go back and try with normal clothes.

New Zara stuff rarely feels like an investment buy - expect to get one season out of it.
