Setting lotion...is it damaging?

I bought a blue bottle of setting lotion from Superdrug this morning, on the back of a recent thread - it's called 'Stay Set'. I've just noticed alcohol is the main ingredient - is it going to damage my already fine and rather dry hair? Is there such a thing as alcohol-free setting lotion and would it even work? I'm going to use it for sock-bun curls and curling wand curls to see if it makes them last longer.

Thinking about it though, I do sock bun curls when my hair is dry, so not sure how I can use setting lotion for that, hmm...

TIA!

Don't know about the lotion but does your hair curl if you do the sock bun dry? Do you have straight hair?

I tried to do one with wet hair but it was still wet when i woke up.

PooPoo yes it does curl when I do the sock bun dry, but it drops into waves by around lunchtime. My hair is pretty wavy naturally and holds a curl well, but it's quite long at the moment so the curls are dropping faster than they used to due to the weight of my hair. The sock bun works best when it hasn't been washed for 2 or 3 days, it seems to do what it's told more easily then!

Doing one when it's wet doesn't work for me either - the ends go crazy bent and curly and the rest of my hair is still damp.

Me too!

Do you do it dry overnight?

TheBirdsTheBirds · 13/09/2012 14:13

Yes, dry overnight. It works better now my layers are all grown out, before that I'd end up with some straight bits and some curly bits.

Hmm might give that a go Smile

If you look on the ingredients of a lot of hair styling products alcohol is pretty high up on the list.

I always assume it's because it will evaporate which would make it a good carrier.
