Lace-up Wellies

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 12/09/2012 15:53

I bought a pair of these last December:

www.schuh.co.uk/black-timberland-14-inch-sw-wellie/1576017060/

They look fab and are really comfy, warm and waterproof BUT ... not any more.

In March, one of them split up the back, up the seem. And then in June the other one cracked down the side of the ankle bit. Sad And did I keep the receipt?! Angry

So, clearly, they are not that waterproof or warm anymore! But I absolutely love the look of them. Has anyone seen anything similar? I know Hunter do some lace-up wellies but they look quite chunky, whereas the Timberland ones were remarkably trendy and feminine.

Help, pretty please?! Thanks

Room 31 (website) had some a few weeks ago that were reasonably priced and came in a few colours

Great, thanks Faff , I'll have a look.

I am renewing my plea for boots! Faff recommended Room 31 but it seems to be wholesale only, sadly - and I only need one pair!

So: wellies with a lace-up look, which look more like boots than wellies, IYSWIM?

Thanking you! Thanks

Hae you seen these at Sarah Raven? They're pricey, but I believe they are the mother of all wellies! I had a quick goole, but they don't seem to be any cheaper elsewhere, unfortunately...

casabevron · 19/12/2012 13:06

that would be google, obvs Blush

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 19/12/2012 13:21

Second the ilse jacobsen I got my black ones off ebay the only thing I would say is they are not grippy which has led to a few Blush moments!

DonaAna · 19/12/2012 19:39

I have Ilse Jacobsen, still going strong three years from purchase.

I wear them almost constantly in the winter when it's wet, would really recommend. Strangely I haven't found them slippy at all - have worn them a lot on icy roads and even on sea ice. Sheepskin or felt insoles make them even warmer.

If you clean them with colorless vegetable oil once or twice a winter (I use canola), they will look like new. They come up big so don't size up.

I wear laced willies by tretorn. I love them and they're fleecy inside. Cost about £50 I think.

emalushka · 19/12/2012 19:48

!!!! Wellies obviously!!!!

Joules laced wellies are in the sale. They are comfy but need thick socks for warmth.

pocketandsweet · 20/12/2012 09:09

Since seeing this thread I have been thinking of little else than how to justify the expense of those Isle Jacobsen ones.... Wondering if lace up Wellieswww are the answer to my (ahem) muscular beefy calves

DonaAna · 20/12/2012 09:25

Pocket the opening of my tall Ilses (size 41) is about 37cm wide at calf, but if you undo and retie the laces, you can spread out the opening for about 10 more cm. So yes I think they might fit. I also have the short ankle Ilse boots which are even more versatile.

For me they have been worth the higher up-front price. They keep me warm and dry (I get colds from wet feet) and save my leather boots from getting wet and staining. They are also extremely warm in snow if worn with sheepskin insoles and woolen socks. I have had many other wellies too (I come from a miserable climate) but these are my favorites ever.

DonaAna · 20/12/2012 09:27

Oh and check eBay.co.uk for Ilse Jacobsen. If you are lucky you might find what you need at a discount.

pocketandsweet · 20/12/2012 09:57

Thanks DonaAna. I have just measured my calves are 40.5 cm so sounds like they would work. They look lovely and I am sure would get alot of wear. I shall investigate the shorter ones though too.

Thank you, everyone! Thanks I sent Casa's link to DH. Hope he got the hint ...!! Grin

You probably won't need reminding, but they are available in a rainbow of colors. (Just to make choosing a bit harder.)

Pocket they would definitely fit, but you should try them on to see whether they rub, chafe etc. I love the tall boots in a heavy downpour but tend to use the short ones more often.

debenhams online have DUNE laced wellies at an extremely bargainous price :)
