So I have this suit - a dark pink dress dress and jacket. But, I haven't worn it yet as I'm not sure what colour shoes I should wear with it. Also if I want to wear a little cardi when I take the jacket off - what colours would work? And, last question, any ideas on accessories to wear. I'm trying to put together a really nice looking outfit for work. Thanks Grin

I think I would split up the dress and jacket and wear the dress with a black blazer and the jacket with some sort of tweed or dogtooth or pattern skirt and a neutral blouse or silk T.

Imo the jacket and dress together could potentially look a bit mother-of-the-bride in that colour...

bulletwithbutterflywings · 12/09/2012 08:27

I wouldn't wear them together either, FauxFox is talking a lot of sense there! In fact I agree with everything she has said. Monochrome shoes and accessories.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 12/09/2012 08:31

I would wear the dress with black tights, shoes, cardi and/or black blazer jacket. Or neutral tights, shoes, and blazer.

Wouldnt wear the jacket with the dress; as faux says you dont want to look MOB at work. some black tailored trousers and the jacket would be nice or skirt with a hint of pink in a pattern would be lovely with a plain blouse.

Split it up. Nude, gray or silver shoes, accessorize with pearls?
The color of the dress makes a strong statement so you could even skip jewellery altogether.

If you want strong contrast, try an emerald green or pale yellow cardigan.
If you want safe, try light gray, white or black cardi if they suit your colors.
I would go for a snug-fitting short cardi and aim for good quality material, mercerized supima cotton for example (a subtle shine - a crumpled viscose cardi would ruin the line of the suit). Or merino or cashmere.

Wear the jacket with a white tee and jeans or black cigarrette pants - black or nude shoes.

ha ha ha

OP: I have a fantastic suit in a gorgeous raspberry colour, what shall I wear with it.
fashionistas: why don't you wear black with black accessories?

I hate black! Grin

@ OP I think the suit is beautiful. I am wearing a dress today that features that colour. It has raspberry, soft pink, biscuit and a rich dark brown. I wear it with maroon shoes (although your whole suit with maroon would definitely be overkill). You could alo try mixing with a soft green. A patterned scarf would add contrast - a block of colour can look 'corporate' so it's good to break it up. If your colouring can take it, a cardigan in hot indian colours would be nice.
What's wrong with the website's suggestion of nude heels/bag?

onemoreforgoodmeasure · 12/09/2012 09:53

I think black is too obvious and safe. If I buy something that's a bit louder than I'd normally wear then I practice by wearing it out with my OH to a garden or something, then by the time I wear it "for real" I've got used to it. Then your options are also opened for not having to opt for safe "black". For a sophisticated look I'd go for nudes in summer and an equally stunning complimentary bright colour for winter - when everyone's a bit dull and in need of a pick me up. I good necklace makes it instantly no longer a mother of the bride ensemble. (or basically what senua said)

Artesia · 12/09/2012 11:50

I'm with senau and oneforgoodmeasure- putting black with a strong/bright colour just makes an outfit look cheap. It's such a gorgeous suit, it woudl be a shame to try to dull it down with black.

If you want something to tone it down, go with neutrals, chocolatey brown or navy, but I think it woudl look lovely with a sage coloured cardigan

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 12/09/2012 11:52

I think black was suggested as a 'safe' colour for OP as she said she didnt know what to wear it with.

I agree with biscuit colours or soft grays. I have a beautiful gray cashmere (fitted) cardigan that would go with the dress.

OP it all depends what you have in your 'work' wardrobe and how much you like colour with colour.

MrsFogi · 12/09/2012 20:25

Thanks for all the suggestions oh stylish ones. I was hoping not to put black with it but I'm not very good at working out at what colours other than black go/clash with that colour as it's not a colour I wear often Grin. If anyone has seen any nice cardigans recently please do link for me.

The best place to find unique stuff (i.e. that nobody else has !!!) is www.etsy.com. Have a look. I have a mini boutique there, however no cardis. There are people all over the world who knit the most wonderful cardis, either by machine or by hand. The best knits come from Turkey (the site is international)

KatieMorag · 12/09/2012 20:44

I would wear it with silver grey, navy or maroon . Nude woudl also be good . Defo not black
