The ultimate red nail varnish

Do you have a go-to shade?

I love Essie and found an eBay seller that has loads of shades for a sweet price and am tempted. Trying to decide on a red that is not too dark, not too old, not too Dynasty-esque. It should be young, fresh and nice on short nails.

I'm thinking Aperitif but not sure it would go with my colouring. What goes nicely with a pale olive skin colour (NC25)? An orangey red or one with blue tones?

If in doubt a true red is the safest bet.
