If someone wanted to treat you to a Prada bag..

..would you go for this?: store.prada.com/en/UK#!/en/UK/woman/handbags/shoulder-bags/BL0823_NZV_F0002

I recently did something very thoughtful for someone (and I suppose its not the first time, I've done quite a bit for them/ their family in the past - purely out of love and never expecting anything in return).

Anyway, I was recently larking about with designer bags in a big department store and this person asked if I could have any bag what would it be? I said, (thinking it was a hypothetical conversation) that I liked the structured classic styles of Prada, also love some of their current sixites style top handle bags.

The person has now said they want to buy me a Prada bag. I said I couldn't possibly accept such an expensive gift but they insisted and have asked me to go away and think about the offer.

So thats what I'm doing! What do you reckon? I think the one linked is practical aswell as stylish, really really wouldn't want to go any more expensive than the one linked unless I was paying for it myself.

Wow, what a crazy generous offer! Lucky you Smile.

That bag is a beautiful classic.

Personally I don't do classic bags so would go for something more striking, but if you want a classic understated bag I can't imagine you'd do much better than that.

Also think carefully about black v brown - lots of people buy black automatically, but sometimes brown/tan can tone in better with existing clothes and accessories. Have a look in your wardrobe.

crazybutterflylady · 11/09/2012 06:46

I agree, I've made the mistake of buying 2 v expensive black bags in the past and rarely use them. Tan is much more wearable for a bag I think and goes with black as well.

You're a lucky gal !i love that style. Go for it!

pinklantern · 11/09/2012 07:12

See I have the opposite problem, I've got some gorgeous tan leather goods (and a khaki soft suede bag) that I love but just don't work with my wardrobe. I guess I have a 'graphic' kinda mod/ 60s look, think Fred Prerry blouses with pencil skirts or high waisted minis, winged eyeliner and heels.

Also I have an absolutely killer Burberry trench with a slight military feel (saved and bought for myself), this looks best with black or brights such as a pillar box red. I think if I was left to my own devices I'd buy one of Prada's bright patent leather top handle bags but as I'm spending someone else's money I feel that I should be a bit more sensible and buy something that they'll like but which I will still get a lot of wear out of.

:D Oh I love bag talk, thanks for your input ladies!

Wow! Oh yes, that bag is stunning and will last you forever.

In response to the above posts though - I don't own a brown bag, never have and never will. It's the only colour I don't have. Loads of black ones and other colours.

If we're dreaming Prad this one is my goal

pinklantern · 11/09/2012 07:26

Very cute Peri! I think mine would be this; store.prada.com/en/UK/woman/handbags/totes/BL0808_2AO6_F0011# I've seen some 'slebs carrying similar versions with a gawdy flower detail which I love too but wouldn't go with as many things (and cost silly money no doubt).

Oops try again; store.prada.com/en/UK/woman/handbags/totes/BL0808_2AO6_F0011#

Yum! I'm a sucker for a classic top handle but I prefer to have a shoulder strap too.

I have a Prada wallet which seems to be indestructible. They're made well.

MaeMobley · 11/09/2012 07:38

Oooh OP! lucky you. This would be my favourite one. Very useful for work. store.prada.com/en/UK/woman/handbags/totes/BN1802_NZV_F0002

TellMeLater · 11/09/2012 08:34

I'd ask for something else - they are so frequently copied especially the classic ones.

VerityBrulee · 11/09/2012 11:03

What a treat! I would go for this red one. I have a bit of a handbag habit but the my favorites are red.

I don't own a single black leather bag and have an absolute aversion to tan. So red is a 'go with everything' colour for me

PropertyNightmare · 11/09/2012 12:12

A fabulously classic looking bag. Yes, get that one I reckon. Every woman should have at least one beautiful bag.

SpicyPear · 11/09/2012 17:12

It's a beautiful bag but with such a large budget it would be a shame not to research across the luxury brands, not just Prada because it was off the top of you head in a hypothetical conversation. You could look at all the bags on the market and really find one that suits your look and lifestyle so you get maximum usage from it. That might be the Prada.

I did this last year and what I loved ended up not being the dream brand I would have said in the same situation as you.

Sorry, that's terribly written, but I hope you get what I mean!

BalloonSlayer · 11/09/2012 17:16

Does this person know how much they cost?

I didn't know how much Prada bags were till I clicked your link . . . Jaysus Mary and Joseph! Shock

I can imagine if I was your Granny saying "Oooh yes dear I'll get you one of those Prada bags" thinking it'd be about £150.

pinklantern · 11/09/2012 18:14

Haha can you imagine Balloon Shock that would be excrutiating! Yes they know how much these bags cost, in fact I think the expense is important to them, I've supported this person when they literally had nothing and had them live with me when they were going through a terrible bereavement a few years back. They are now very comfortable and I reckon the linked bag is less than a weeks wages to them, they know I'd never accept a penny from them so they've gone for my achilles heel instead - bags!

Freshletticiaandslugs · 11/09/2012 21:39

You should accept, they must really want to thank you and not know how. Why don't you do as they said up thread and research them? Find a few, say 3 or four that you really like and give your friend the opportunity to choose one of them for you? Then they have a hand in how much they want to pay etc etc and it would be more special because they liked it too.
Hth lucky bugger

ThePieWhoLovedMe · 11/09/2012 22:33
