Saw a set including a led light for £69.99 in boots today. It said there was enough for 10 gel manicures. You could also buy different colours for £16. Just wondered if anyone has used a set like this? In a red box, not sure who made it. Useless sorry! Or any good gel sets? My DH said I should ask you ladies before buying it!!

If it was in Boots, I think it was the Sensationail one. I just bought this last week, and it's the best "at home" gel nail brand I've used. Really happy with the results, and really liked the shape and denisity of the brushes - made it very easy to apply neatly.

You can buy cheaper on eBay ( for example, the Gelish I bought, the bottles were twice the size ) but the results weren't as good, and it dried out before I used it all anyway.

I'd suggest searching for some youtube tutorial video's before having a go yourself.

Thanks for answering. That's good to know. I looked on

eBay but so many dodgy looking things think I am safer to go with the boots one.

Red carpet nails - QVC sell the professional kit and it is amazing. You get 3 free colours with it. It's from the makers of Gelish so you can use their colours too. Mine was about £80 quid but has long since paid for itself in salon savings.

I was looking at the Same boots one the other day actually. Very tempted.

But you can buy Gel lamps for around £20.00's on Ebay.

I know but lots of them seem to be from Hong Kong so will they be rubbish and will they even arrive?!

Compare the wattage of the bulb, in each lamp. I don't think they'd be much worse, to be honest!

That's interesting about the QVC one as when I watched a demo the other night they did a close up and it looked really messy - I was keen but it put me off then.

If you can but gel lamps for £20 - how much are the special nail varnishes and where do you get them?

Loveleopardprint · 09/09/2012 16:00

They had the varnishes in Boots for £15.99. Nice colours too.

I use a lamp I bought from eBay, it works well with the sensationail stuff from Boots. Can't remember the seller, I bought it well over a year ago and still going strong though. You need more than just the colour varnish. You need the essentials kit which is about £25, and includes the nail prep stuff, base/top coat and the stuff you use to clean the tacky layer off afterwards. Then you need a colour which is about £15.

Yeah, i second Quinn Get them off Ebay. back when i did nails, i used to buy the stuff of ebay instead of rip-off-ahoy Sally's.

I love the Red Carpet Manicure set too, easy to apply and looks great. I found the lamp it came with was a bit small so some areas didn't quite cure properly. I picked up a larger lamp from amazon for about £20 and problem solved!
