Merrell haven sizing help - fast!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 07/09/2012 13:18

I have found a merrell haven in cinder for £75! :)
It's only available in XS or S.

I am an 8 on top but have broad shoulders. I'm a 10 (fat face and DP) on the bottom.

Can I get away with a small? Confused I'd want to be able to wear a jumper with it too.

I'm a ten and have a medium. The small was ok for me but wouldn't have given me room for layers underneath. If I were you, I'd get a small. HTH.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 07/09/2012 14:01

Hmm I'm not sure but it is a bargain if it fits.

Might re read the returns policy. Confused

Where, where?

Whenisitmysleepytime · 07/09/2012 14:42

Sheactive.

They have more sizes (but same price) on the white one but I can envisage carrying welly wearing dc at times this winter so white is not a wise choice for me.

Hope it fits! :)

Thanks sleepy! What size did you go for? I am a petite 8 on top and 8 on the bottom, and would also like to wear a jumper underneath, not sure whether the S would be too big though.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 07/09/2012 14:51

I got a small. I'm hoping it's ok as I sometimes need a 12 to accommodate my shoulders.

Returns policy seems fairly straightforward so am risking it.

I hadnt seen a medium cinder colour for under £120 so will have to spend more if it's too small.

Medal you will fit the small with room. I have medium, I am a short 10 but 30G norkage so almost always 12 on top. I got the medium (3 plus yrs ago so it might have changed slightly), plenty of room for layers. I would say if you live in England you probably won't need layers with it, mine felt like I had put on an electric blanket when I first wore it, I am in NE Scotland. If the weather is lower than 5 degrees uniqlo heat tech is good for thin layering.

SneezySnatcher · 07/09/2012 15:17

I love mine - it's so warm. I got mine from Go Outdoors for £75. I also bought the thin Wakefield in black for wet but warm days!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 12/09/2012 21:59

it arrived today! :)

it looks fab but i would probably choose a size 11 in an ideal world. Hmm

a 12 would be too big in the body/ waist but i can fit a hoody underneath it so i'm going to keep it but it is fairly snug with a thick/ bulky layer underneath.

for £75 it is WELL worth it!i have spent a fair amount of time prancing in front of the mirror! Blush

I really want a Wakefield but can't find one for under £100 :( They don't seem to be in stock in many places...

Whenisitmysleepytime · 13/09/2012 05:15

Meg - try go outdoors it's £80 but you'd have to collect from a store. They do look like they have lots of branches tho.
HTH :)

MegBusset · 13/09/2012 08:00

I tried there but no good - the nearest store it's in stock is 55 miles away!

Nagoo · 13/09/2012 10:04

undyed £65 lots of sizes

littlecupcake · 13/09/2012 14:39

Oohhh, been looking for a Haven for ages but they were all so expensive. £75 is a bargain price so I have just ordered a black one. Very confused as to whether they are waterproof or water resistant, different reviews and websites all say different things. Has anyone got one that could tell me?

Thanks so much whenisitmysleepytime Grin

Whenisitmysleepytime · 13/09/2012 14:42

Cupcake -the merrell info label says waterproof. But the fabric feels not waterproof iyswim. I think I might pour some water on mine and see what happens.
Glad you found one at a good price :)

Fingers crossed then. Let me know what happens when you pour water on yours! I'm surewe won't have to wait for some rain to try it out in. Will be great for nursery run. Just had email to say it's been dispatched, only ordered it a couple of hours ago. Impressed with service so far.

Oops, double post!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 13/09/2012 16:44

My thoughts exactly cupcake!
I did the pre-school drop off by car this week as I had to get a parcel (my coat). It was bloody chaos trying to get out of the carpark and street because the college starts at te same time.

I will report back after my experiment! :)

Nagoo · 13/09/2012 17:01

I have one. It's waterproof. :)

In a monsoon you might get the crooks of your arms slightly damp when pushing a buggy. But only in a monsoon.

MegBusset · 13/09/2012 17:49

Elbows definitely a non-waterproof point. I have come back from several torrential school runs with soggy arms. Otherwise it holds up fine.

littlecupcake · 15/09/2012 10:11

My Haven has just been delivered, only oredered on Thursday, well done Sheactive!

Am 10 on top, 8 on bottom and the small is a snug fit, but I think it'll be okay. I'm in two minds as to whether to keep it or try to find a medium size at a good price.

It isn't as bulky as I thought it would be which is great, but it felt lovely and warm when I tried it on.

Bring on the chilly weather so I can try it out!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 15/09/2012 10:33

Mines snug too cupcake. I can get a large hoody under it tho so I think it'll work. :)

Still haven't tested the waterproof- ness of it...

OP posts:
littlecupcake · 15/09/2012 11:07

Tried on last year's coat to compare and it was about the same for size, although the Haven is much, much thicker. I've got the black one but I think it might be a bit of a nightmare for attracting 'bits' (fluff, hair etc). I'm going to have to choose scarves carefully so that they don't leave bits all over the coat. Maybe pashminas will be the way to go...

mel2005 · 19/09/2012 13:47

I just bought one from field and trek for £30 in cinder, it said a size 8 on the field and trek website. I am an 8ish but when it came today it said XS on the actual coat which is a 6 on the sizes on the merrell website. It does fit me nicely but is a tiny bit snug around the shoulders when its done up and i put my arms up with a normal wooly jumper on. I am keeping it as I totally love it, the fabric is soft and it's nice and padded so I will not have to wear thick jumpers underneath (which is lucky as I don't think it would fit with a big thick jumper on) It's got such a lovely shape to it it nips in at the waist and is cut nicely around the shoulders so that I don't look like I have massive shoulder pads like my musto and joules field coat do, it's also a great length. I love the double pockets as well.
