Description of mamogramm pretty spot on, but just add if you are a shortarse like me you end up on tiptoe trying to hold the position Hmm

MrsS and MI enjoy tonight - would love to be there, but can't. Please (wails) can we arrange a pre-christmas meet? Say late October/November? - MrsS check your diary. Also agree with MI you are clearly v. v. clever so do the exam! (oh and I WILL read you short story, promise!)

Ds gone off to Snowdonia today, so I pridict one smelly, dirty, tired child on Friday, and I am not even going to think about the state of the bag and his belongings.....

wilbur · 12/09/2012 09:43

Boden, to be fair, were very apologetic, have sent a free return label and added £15 credit to my account. Am going to get a refund as I don't dare buy another, which is a shame as it's a lovely dress and soooper comfy.

Definitely on for a pre-Xmas meet up, would be great to see everyone. Welcome back Mintyy and hi saggar - think I forgot to say hello in my frock fluster.

Well done on your test stropps, and I hope dh's appointments all go ok.

So, in lieu of an invitation for a mammogram (who knew my recent godawful smear test should have made me feel young?), my crepey moment this week was to do with returning to keep fit after a summer of not much exercise and way too much cake. The keep fit class was just about manageable, although trying to launch myself off the ground doing those squat and then jump up things was pretty impossible and my landing was like the tyrannosaurus arriving in Jurassic Park. No, it was then describing said squat jumps to the young assistant in my office (age 22) who then said, "But it's really good you're still exercising and looking after yourself". This was said entirely without malice but it clearly communicated just how old I seem to her. It's the kind of thing I used to say to an elderly friend who died a few years ago at the age of 101.

bigTillyMint · 12/09/2012 12:24

WilburGrin re the youngsters comment!

I am lucky enough to work with lots of younger colleagues, however all of the younger female colleagues are way less fit than me and my crepey colleagues. It makes us feel superior!

Yes, yes to pre-December meet-up - hopefully I will have mastered the DC's weekly clubs (and DS will be into the swing of homework), DH will have put all his meetings on the calendar, and I will be used to working full-time!

I thought that look was very "in" at the moment? My colleague is sporting a similar look with cardis/tops today and it looks good!

Those look scrummy and warm, ruby, Merell's a great brand. I think they would be find with the red coat as they're quite dark, and you will have trousers in between, yes?

CointreauVersial · 12/09/2012 13:58

Leafing through my copy of the Boots H&B Mag, and who do I see grinning out from Page 44? Why, it's only our favourite Crepey, BTM! Hoping to see you "radiant and fresh" very soon.

Unusually for a Wednesday I'm at home today; I had a car accident yesterday evening. Sad A quick trip to IKEA with the DDs turned into a not-so-quick trip; a big Volvo 4x4 coming the other way just veered straight onto the wrong side of the road, bounced off the driver's door of my car, then hit the guy behind head-on. I reckon he fell asleep. Big thump, lots of broken glass, and DDs screaming, but amazingly we were OK. Some lovely people in a nearby house took the DDs in, wrapped them in a duvet, gave them a tub of ice cream and two spoons, and they soon perked up. I finally got to bed at 1am, once the police had done all the necessary (first ever breathalyser....) and am now waiting for a hire car.

I am however planning a stiff letter to my insurance company, who refused to recover the car because I didn't have my actual policy number with me. Angry Apparently, the "out-of-hours" team can't authorise this without a policy number, even if you are stranded in the middle of a busy road at 10pm, with two sobbing children......good old plod stepped in; they were marvellous.

I am pretty sure my car, even though it is only 3 years old, will be written off, but a few cms either way and it could have been soooo much worse. We were very lucky, although it doesn't feel like it. I didn't sleep a wink last night.

Anyway, I called work and was told to curl up on the sofa and have a sickie, bless them, so I got to watch my teen-Duranie crush John Taylor on Loose Women. Quality!

bigTillyMint · 12/09/2012 14:28

CV OMG! Where did you get the mag? In the store?

How horrible - car accidentShock

Blackduck · 12/09/2012 14:44

Oh CV that sounds nasty - glad to hear you are okay....

CV - that must have been terrifying. Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight. How lovely to hear work has been understanding.

And yes, I too will be hotfooting it to Boots in the near future, BTM Grin

I am also Grin at wilbur's work colleague's comment. We may be knocking on a bit Hmm, but we've still got about 20 years until we can collect our pensions.

Dh's test returned good results and whilst he can expect the side effects of the radiation to get a bit worse for the next couple of months, everything is generally looking positive at this stage.

bigTillyMint · 12/09/2012 17:25

Great news Stropps!

I have a problem with my DC - DD is getting very annoyed with DS who is now travelling to and from school at the same time as her. He is with his best mate, but the boys that she is friendly with and are her age, (including her "boyfriend") who normally travel with her (and her girl friends if they are around) are happy for DS and his mate to travel with them (he already knows them from primary school/footy, etc).
I can see that it looks like he is muscling in on her friends, but I think the boys are genuinely friendly with both and can't see a problem. In any case, DS has to leave home/school at the same time as her and take the same route.Confused

Any words of nonS&B wisdom?

CointreauVersial · 12/09/2012 18:01

BTM, my two had to get the bus this morning (not as straightforward as it sounds, as it primarily serves the "other" secondary in school, so they do run the gauntlet a bit). They got on at the start of the route, only five kids in a massive double decker, but as it pulled away I noted that DS and DD1 were seated as far away from each other as humanly possible. Grin I think they keep their distance at school, so I've not had your problem, but it sounds like your DD will just have to lump it (or walk a few paces behind with BF) as she's the only one objecting.

Thanks for your kind wishes about my prang - if I'm honest I have felt very out-of-sorts today, not hurt, just very stressed about it all. It's only my second sick day in 5 years, so the office can't complain too much. And I'm feeling more calm and in control now I have a big black VW Touran courtesy car on the drive.

Excellent to hear that DH is improving, Strops, what a relief to hear good news.

bigTillyMint · 12/09/2012 18:10

CV, I fear you are right, and that is what I have told DD - unless her bf/other older boys tell DS and his mate to clear off!
Glad you're feeling better - it's a shocking thing to happen, even worse than when you have "done" the crashing, IYKWIM!

alto1 · 12/09/2012 18:34

Sorry to hear about crash CV, you seem amazingly level-headed about it but the stress and loss of sleep must have affected you.

Realise I would have no idea about my insurance details in same situation - must put copy in glove box.

TheReturnofStroperella, I see you're supporting a sick husband - will look through old threads but in the meantime I'm glad to hear the news from his appointment was okay.

Tempted to jump on a train and come out drinking and dancing with MrsS and MI but got work to do and just had steroid injection in dodgy shoulder, so better not. Have a good time Grin

ruby - hadn't thought about how it affects twins! Do you think it will settle a bit over time?

wilbur · 12/09/2012 19:33

CV - so sorry to hear about the crash - how horrid, but thank goodness you were not hurt, especially if the car went into your door. These things do affect you - the shock to the system can take a while to fade, so take care of yourself.

Strops - great news re dh, he must be pleased to hear the positive words from the doc.

BTM - I had a similar thing with my older sister as we had to travel on the train to school together. She adopted a mildly patronising tone if she ever had to speak to me in public, thus making it clear that I was only in her space because of her heroic tolerance of me Grin. I'm pretty sure the only words she ever spoke to me actually in school (we overlapped in the senior school for 2 years) were "Oh, it's you" when she once came across me in the cloakroom. TBH, I would try and get dd to see that it's only temporary - he's bound to have his own gang soon and leave her be - and that she might possibly be flattered that he thinks her friends are cool. But then I'm a big believer in helping siblings to get along as the legacy from my own childhood relationship with my sister is not pretty.

Alto - can I ask about your steroid injection? Is it for an inflamed joint? I'm having a problem with my back, inflamed sacro-iliac joint, that is not going away and am thinking about asking for some kind of treatment. Hope the injection wasn't too grim.

alto1 · 12/09/2012 19:45

Hi wilbur, it was methylprednisolone for a rotator cuff problem. The injection itself is no problem but the last one only gave about three weeks' relief. This one is double the dose, so we'll see.

DH has just made me jump out of my skin by emitting a piercing wail from the other room (I jump if he hiccups at the moment). Turned out he had spilt some baked beans. I now want to smash something.

DameSaggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/09/2012 19:57

Oh CV, glad you're OK.

Interested in your injection alto. I've been struggling with my shoulder for a while, initially thought to be calcified tendonitis but the x-ray was clear. Need to go back to the GP really.

bigTillyMint · 12/09/2012 20:14

Thanks Wilbur - they do get on quite well mostly, but any looking down her nose will just bounce off him (like it would his father!) - I'm hoping it will sort itself out over time....

Blackduck · 13/09/2012 06:54

Stropps Grin at news...
I never really had school sibling thing as brothers were in boarding school. Middle brother and I used to fight like cat and dog and have serious academic rivalry, but not the friendship thing (although he did marry a girl who was in my year at school Smile )
Bit hungover today as stayed at a friends last night - pass the nurofen someone..

MrsS and MI hope you had a good night Smile

bigTillyMint · 13/09/2012 07:41

Yes MI and MrsS, hope the mojito's were up to scratch! I had a very exciting night running DC around and being nearby whilst DD watched DC next door - she was soooo pleased with her earningsSmile
