BTM can't do that weekend...

herbaceous · 06/11/2012 08:18

I can't do that weekend either - we're on our builder-escaping bracing weekend in North Norfolk.

I don't mind postponing until Jan.

DS now downstairs, showing the builder his swannee whistle skills. Not sure he's impressed.

motherinferior · 06/11/2012 19:52

Let's do Jan then

motherinferior · 06/11/2012 20:02

OK. I have a style dilemma. I have never dared admit there might be some nice things on this site before but stylish friend likes another jumper on it, and I rather like this which is also vg value: do I file the whole site under 'some hidden gems' and therefore pat myself on back, or just consign self wholesale to Chums catalogue???

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 20:17

step away from the paper thin dress now. NO!

motherinferior · 06/11/2012 20:25

Do you think it is? It's not that fine a weight of jersey, I think...

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 20:53

I just think it looks as though the hem will go all wobbly and the bum all baggy after you've worn it for more than 5 mins... but could be completely wrong! how much is the p and p? if not much / free you could find out by ordering it... which jumper does your friend have her eye on?

motherinferior · 06/11/2012 20:55

She wants one of the chunky arans. A poloneck. Personally I think this is wrong for her norks but she is a grown up, dammit Grin

I think perhaps I will leave ordering anything till my crippling PMT and the associated self-loathing and self-pity have retreated, though Grin

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 21:01

have a look on cos for instance...

nice in green

cute!

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 21:04

you are clearly busy leading each other astray... a folie a deux is still a folie.

motherinferior · 06/11/2012 21:04

Ooh no. I had a total meltdown in Cos only yesterday. The clothes look fab, and then you try them on and they induce utter despair (not helped by the fact you can see your double chin and your bum in the mirror at the same time). I came out and emailed a v stylish former MNer about this and she said consolingly that Cos makes rectangular clothes. Honestly, I felt quite suicidal. (The PMT obviously didn't help.)

I had a lovely White Company dress v similar to the one in the link, which I splashed out on last year...and then someone possibly me but I blame Mr Inferior put it in on a hot wash and it became a small fuzzy thing.

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 21:15

I cant wear many tailored / structured cos things (although do have a lovely coat from there last year) but I love their jersey / knitwear stuff. In fact bought this and these beauties only today (dont tell dh).

bigTillyMint · 06/11/2012 21:37

Right, Jan it is!Smile

MI I feel your pain about Cos clothing - it makes me look like a sack of spuds too, though I am quite liking OQ's jumper but definitely not the trews - I don't do pleats at the frontConfused

And I like that Woolovers dress, though I fear OQ may be right. Could you buy it and return it if no good? Am liking rather a lot on that site, despite having 3023 jumpers/cardis, etc alreadyBlush

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 21:38

oooh yes to meeting in Jan. That'll give me long enough to get my courage up!

CointreauVersial · 06/11/2012 22:04

MI, what a great website! I am after a boring basic black jumper, long enough to wear with skinny jeans, no stoopid owl or star logos (what am I, five?), preferably with at least some wool content......and there is nowt in the shops anywhere. They are good prices too. I also had a sneaky look at the Arrans - when I was young a friend of my grandmothers would knit me an Arran jumper every year, and oh, how I loved them.

But I agree with OQ that the knitted dress might go a little wobbly at the hem, and you'll have to be careful to hitch before you sit, to avoid a baggy bum.

YY to waiting til January for the meet-up - my pre-Christmas diary is starting to groan.

NN to Cos - boxy awful sacks on me. Everyone else looks great in it, though....Envy

motherinferior · 06/11/2012 22:17

I used to work, in a different office, with lithe young things who all shopped at Cos.

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 22:20

feeling worried now, as may well be deluded that Cos stuff suits me.... if you all can't be doing with it I am probably walking around like a walking matchbox, thinking in my peri-menopausal way that I look pretty fly...

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 22:20

am definitely, sadly, neither young nor lithe....

TheReturnOfStropperella · 06/11/2012 22:44

I think I remember remarking on one of our previous crepey threads about the rectangularity of Cos. There is a blockiness to their stuff which just makes me look even more wizened and misshapen than is quite fair.

Woolovers. Hmm. I recently bought this one in green. I have kept it because it is fantastically warm. But it makes me look like a right bloater, to be frank.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/11/2012 22:58

I am yowling with laughter at OQ pointing out the Joys of Cos to MI, after MI's hissy fit to me about her Changing Room Experience there the other day (NB I am not her stylish friend). GrinGrin

I was mindful the other week when shopping of MI's instructions to me to Buy Clothes That Fit, and not the largest size on offer. My hands hovered over the XL tights in M & S. Then went up a rail to the L. I bought them. They fit. My revelation was that the XL tights were too big and that is why they fell down or stretched right up over my bosom. The L fitted. Snapped on my legs like they were made for them. Stayed up. At the waist. Did not wrinkle a la Nora Batty around my ankles. I might try smaller sized pants next time too, given that DH asked me the other morning if the crotch was meant to hang down like that...

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 23:08

pleased to be of service mrs s...

oldqueenie · 06/11/2012 23:11

now could you all just pop over here and register your approval of my excellent suggestion of "I Should Cocoa" as a business name so that the op sends me us a large box of delicious brownies..? TIA

herbaceous · 06/11/2012 23:13

MI, I fear with that dress you could be straying into sensible country. But in non-sensible flimsy-ness.

As for Cos, I fear I would look like a coffin in any of their gear. They don't seem to accommodate the 'hour glass' (or 'waist') in their cut, and that's my only redeeming feature.

Just returned from my final (yay!) committee meeting as chair. In fact, after point 1 (new committee) I was no longer chair. Thank farking Christ.

CointreauVersial · 06/11/2012 23:18

Woolover's profits are up - I ordered this in black, then I spotted the guernseys and thought "ooooh, cosy", so stuck a cream one in the basket.

Then DH wandered over, and added a red jumper with a zip front, and a tank top for work (purple!).

I'll report back.

herbaceous · 07/11/2012 07:37

DAMN YOU ALL. Now I want an Arran, a Guernsey and a hoodie. Fortunately I am utterly broke - thanks, non-paying client - so will have to refrain. I could, however, add them to my birthday list!
