Ooh, Issy - is that the Royal Parks half-marathon? 2 of my friends are running in that - both coming over from Paris to do it!

bigTillyMint · 04/10/2012 18:35

CV, what is it? The car, I mean!

Yes 3 weeks to go. And I'm definitely countingGrin

CointreauVersial · 04/10/2012 18:48

Tis a Toyota Verso. It is a 7 seater but not too bus-like. It has lots of touch screen sat-navvy bluetoothy stuff and a camera on the back bumper. But nowhere to put your handbag.Grin

bigTillyMint · 04/10/2012 18:50

Looks quite fine for a mumdad bus (if no space for a handbag!) but I was imagining you in a little sporty number with the roof downGrin

CointreauVersial · 04/10/2012 18:55

Nah, DH has the midlife crisis car sporty convertible, but it only has four seats so no much cop as a family car. I do borrow it in the summer, but it's a PITA to cart the DCs around in it for too long.

herbaceous · 04/10/2012 19:57

Ooh I drove a car like that on holiday. It was a Ford c-max, but similar sort of idea. Miles bigger than my little Fabia at home, so it took me the whole week to get used to the size. Partly why I scraped it down a wall in Cordoba.

Cremolafoam · 04/10/2012 22:45

Glad to hear the good news BTM

Cremolafoam, spill about the lipstick, I'm in urgent need. Caught sight of my reflection today & flinched superstitiously...was like a vision of the undead

Does everyone have the weekend off? I'm thinking of practising choir music and processing chestnuts for bake-off type experiments. And nagging dd to get ready for her German trip. And shopping for the various essentials she has lost or misplaced this week (becoming a fixture on my to-do list)

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/10/2012 21:56

DD1 is in Brussels playing football, back tomorrow evening, and then has to fit in riding and cello lesson on Sunday, plus accumulated homework. DD2 is being stroppy, but we went out for sushi tonight, which cheered her up a bit.

My "chill out" internet radio station 1.fm Always Christmas (I know, I know!) has disappeared from the internet radio, and the version on the internet is (spits) French. I liked my American version, with its adverts for cosmetic surgery and advising on doing your tax returns. I don't want French adverts for French things. Most disappointed. If I want French radio, I will listen to the divine FIP.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 05/10/2012 21:57

Issy, good luck, hope you have good weather for it and you reach the finish line in style - whether in a metallic blanket or not :)

I am feeling a bit Sad as we have had not such a good week. We have had barely any work - although I have done my best to be positive and have re-vamped my CV and sent it out to various possible sources of work. Obviously dh has done the same, but it's a bit scary having both of us essentially twiddling our thumbs for the best part of a week.

Then this evening, a cousin of mine - who is someone I grew up with and am arguably closer to than I am to my db - phoned to say that he has the results back from a biopsy (I knew this was pending he has been in contact a lot about it and rang in a bit of a state earlier in the week) and he has Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He is the same age as I am and is on his own. My dcs know him as a favourite "uncle". He will certainly have to have chemo. Not sure what else as it depends on what stage things are at (scans due soon, one hopes). I feel faintly outraged and rather confused. It is an odd feeling.

Blackduck · 06/10/2012 09:21

Oh Stropps sorry to hear you have not had a good week - hope things pick up soon.
I have survived the week from hell, including a 14 hour day on Thursday. Am knackered.
I am still trying to come to terms with this house and finding it hard, but Ds is loving it so the move was definitely a good thing for him. My old next door neighbours have also bitten the bullet and put their house up for sale.
I intend to shop and then cook this weekend. Anjum's latest - veggie book - has landed on my doorstep so I am raiding the veg bag and going to cook up a storm Grin

motherinferior · 06/10/2012 09:53

Very sorry for all with lousy weeks. I crawled home with vile bug yesterday, and DP is feeling fed up about various goingson at work AND finds it hard to understand that really my earnings are totally unpredictable from Jan as, hasn't he heard, there is a world recession on...

I am going to do some writing, have a haircut (ooops) and not go swimming but will have friends round for booze this evening if I stay as relatively upright as I am at the moment. Still don't feel very big and strong, I must say.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/10/2012 14:45

Sorry about your crap week, Strops, and lack of work. I'll send good vibes your way, and for your cousin too.

I am going to Vienna for three days next month. I spent the unhappiest year of my life in Vienna, but reckon I can probably cope with three days.

oldqueenie · 06/10/2012 20:28

Help me Crepeys, PLEEEEEEASE.
Ok, so I couldn't find my iphone yesterday evening but wasn't too concerned.... then this morning I really couldn't find it. Began to panic a bit more. One morning out and about without it made me realise how much I need it (shamefully).
Then this afternoon.... good news! I found it. Bad news! I found it in the washing machine... where it had had a 30 degree wash and then languished since yesterday afternoon.
Has anyone revived their dead iphone? If so, how??

CointreauVersial · 06/10/2012 20:47

Oh dear, OQ, that sounds somewhat terminal....Maybe post something in Geeky Stuff - they know about such things.

Sorry to hear about various rotten happenings in crepeyland. Hopefully the weekend (what remains of it) will be restful and restorative.

I'm babysitting at the moment, and was really looking forward to a couple of hours of X-Factor with no looming domestic chores to distract me, but I arrived to find their TV is on the blink! Cruelty to babysitters, that's what it is. At least they set up the laptop for me, but it doesn't have enough puff to stream ITV, sadly.

CointreauVersial · 06/10/2012 21:05
oldqueenie · 06/10/2012 21:11

large glass of sherry here and x factor... very reviving. bastard iphone is now in a tupperware covered in rice.... thanks to geeky advice. .

CointreauVersial · 06/10/2012 21:16

Gah! Alcohol not really an option tonight, what with four under-10s asleep upstairs, so redbush will have to do.

Rice, eh?

bigTillyMint · 06/10/2012 22:39

OQ, I have heard that you have to put it in a box of rice for a few days to completely dry out.

Ahh I see you have found that advice. In my defense, I have been out to a beer fest....

Blackduck · 07/10/2012 09:11

We went shopping yesterday and Dp treated himself to a coffee machine £££, Ds got a boardgame ££ and I got a dress from a charity shop £ Hmm
Played said board game where dp's competitive streak was in full force. Today will cook from Anjum!!!
Best thing about hell week was got to watch TV as stayed round friends (ours is still in a box and we have no Internet) two episodes of Hotel GB and Grand Designs!

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/10/2012 10:08

I have just come back from the market and have discovered that my oysters have leaked all over my cheese, fruit and veg, not to mention my prunes. Fortunately the bread and vanilla pods were in another bag. The perils of living in Paris, eh?

motherinferior · 07/10/2012 15:30

'My oysters have leaked on my prunes.' Only in Paris (and is it me or does that sound faintly, er entendre ish?)

I am still feeling distinctly delicate. Although probably not as delicate as OQ's phone. I am going to go and lie down with a thriller, as Mr Inferior has bitten the short straw and has to take the girls swimming Wink. Am going to do a version of Thai curry later, as the local Chinese supermarket now stocks frozen galangal/lime leaves/lemongrass etc: - have also made pints and pints of veg stock. None of which of course adds up to Issy's half-marathon (guilt)...

TheReturnOfStropperella · 07/10/2012 15:41

I am feeling very delicate, but it is entirely self-inflicted. And I have this horrible feeling that I probably ought to ring some people and apologise for being very loud and very opinionated when I was busy getting far more hideously drunk than everyone I was with last night (mummies from ds's school Blush ) .Oh dear oh dear. I have not been actually sick from a booze binge in maybe a decade or more but I was v.v. ill all last night and this morning. ds was appalled. Blush And dd is smirking and saying I am a "bad influence".
dh was rather lovely, though, and has been looking after me. I suppose this is because it is the first time he has ever seen me ill from drink. I daresay if it weren't such a novelty he wouldn't have been so kind.
oh, the shame.

motherinferior · 07/10/2012 15:43

Strops, dearest, we have all been there

(or at least I have and I bet you MrsS other Crepeys have too)
