Discuss.

(And where would one find a good one?)

Nay. Unless you're going to a cowboys and Indians fancy dress party.

Hmmm, I had a red checked shirt in my wardrobe for the past 2-3 years. And I kept thinking the same as you - yay or nay??

I threw it out yesterday.

However, I do occasionally see people wearing them, and they somehow manage to look really good, which is why I think I clung onto mine for so long. But I just never felt like it looked quite right on me.

How were you thinking of wearing/styling one?

UnbridledPositivity · 06/09/2012 09:08

With jeans & converse?

They always look really good on other people.

I always think they look good on other people too. Not so good on me!

AlwaysOneMissing · 07/09/2012 08:14

Yes, jeans and converse probably the best way to wear one. Mine still didn't look right though, but maybe that was just the way I felt wearing it. I think the style of check and the cut of the shirt makes a difference too.

UnbridledPositivity · 07/09/2012 08:20

Yes, I think that must be the secret to making it look good. Possibly choosing right colours for hair/skin tone too. Hmm.

Looks good on dh, dd & ds but not me, too casual methinks.

GragPop · 07/09/2012 09:31

I love them. Blush

I also wear with jeans and converse.

I think for women it absolutely needs to be fitted rather than loose. I have a red check shirt bought from H&M earlier this year which I have worn loads with straight leg jeans and layered over either a vest or long sleeve tee. With either of those options, the base layer needs to be slightly longer than the shirt so that it shows beneath.

I have a few checked shirts - i really like them and they are one of my fav casual looks. I generally wear them with skinny jeans and knee high boots.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/09/2012 10:15

My 10 yo DD wears them with jeggings/leggings and Converses.

So that means I can't because she looks brilliant and I'd look muttoney Sad

I have a green one that I wear with jeans and Hunters for doing the veggie patch / walking dog in winter over poloneck.

They're a yay for me, fitted, with vest or long sleeved t under them. Usually with jeans and converse. All of mine ( and there are a fair few) are from River Island.

I have a blue, red and white check from primarni and its fab. Is very fitted and tight and goes well with skinny jeans. Also looks good undone with a vest underneath.
(Realised I needed to do this when the popper buttons popped one day!!!)
Its not a smart look - but have had 2 umprompted compliments when wearing it, so I like the outfit!
But I'm not an avid follower of fashion and it may not be 'up to date' as I'm of the school that if it looks and fits well then I'm not too bothered about being 'on trend'!!!
