Did you regret getting a fringe??

seriously considering having a fringe cut for the first time since I was 12...
If you have taken the jump, did you regret it? Do you wish you'd had it cut sooner? Slightly too scared to do it...please tell me your stories!

Yes!! Had one for about a month and then decided to grow it out, 18 months later and I'm still growing it out......I did like it for two weeks though Grin

TheBirdsTheBirds · 05/09/2012 22:03

No, not at all! I got a full fringe about 18 months ago and love it! Needs trimming around every 3 weeks because I like to keep it blunt and neat, but no hassle apart from that.

shattereddreams · 05/09/2012 22:05

Best for straight hair. If you have kinks and waves don't do it.

TheBirdsTheBirds · 05/09/2012 22:05

Plus, even though it will take ages to get back to the same length as the rest of your hair, it will grow into a long side fringe really fast if you hate it.

TheBirdsTheBirds · 05/09/2012 22:06

Mines very wavy, but easy to tame - straight after a blast with the hairdryer.

budgieshell · 05/09/2012 22:08

I have always had a fringe but I would say that if your skin is on the greasy/oily side don't do it. Your forhead will get spotty and your fringe will look greasy. Great for longer faces and covering frown lines.

MrsRogerSterling · 05/09/2012 22:13

Had a full fringe cut in about 8 weeks ago and love it. I have wavy layered hair which I dry naturally and just blow in my fringe, takes seconds.

tiredteddy · 05/09/2012 22:13

I got my first fringe cut ever about two weeks ago and I have never had so many compliments! Go for it!

cheesesarnie · 05/09/2012 22:15

i've had one for about 5 years and think it suits me Smile

daimbardiva · 05/09/2012 22:15

I got one about 5 years ago after much umming and aahing and have never looked back. Can't imagine not having urn now!

LastnightDNAruinedmylife · 05/09/2012 22:16

I have & haven't fringed - I did a very blunt heavy one & loved it, then grew it out (my hair is wavy & quite frankly mental BTW) & want one again - may chop away tonight - or not......

Hmmm - fringes....

Like 'em.

But you do have to re-consider your wardrobe - all your clothes look different.

msrisotto · 05/09/2012 22:16

I got a wispy side fringe sweeping across my forehead until recently. It was a change, it was ok but when it got wet it kinked and in the wind it blew all over the place. I kept it for a good year, but got irritated by it eventually. Nothing disastrous though, you might as well give it a go!

cocolepew · 05/09/2012 22:17

I have a heavy blunt fringe, I love it hides the wrinkles

cheesesarnie · 05/09/2012 22:19

agree about clothes and wrinkles stuff.

you need to get it trimmed regularly though else it'll just look odd.

mines heavy blunt too.

cheeseandmushroomtoastie · 05/09/2012 22:23

I read the thread title as 'fridge' instead of fringe. Not helpful I know but still Grin at myself

DarrellRivers · 05/09/2012 22:25

Mine drove me mad
Kept thinking about it all the time
Became obsessed
Now much happier without

I love my fringe, I have a short Bettie bangs fringe which is low maintenance and means I don't look like a slap head if I have a ponytail :)

Startailoforangeandgold · 06/09/2012 08:32

Always had one (except for a few years around the age of 7).

Frown lines and the fact my hair falls forwards. Tried a swept back flick in the 80's, half a can of hairspray and it was still in my eyes.

Prefer it slightly feathered rather than to blunt.

Thumbwitch · 06/09/2012 08:41

Hell yes! I had my first one at 11 - my Nan did it (trained hairdresser so I can only think it was deliberate) - wet my curly hair, cut it straight across just above the eyebrows - it went "ping!" up into my hairline. Shocking mess!
Kept at it for years, had to cut more and more into it but the curl made it ridiculous, and my hair is just far far too fine, so it never "sat" nicely, or stayed down in the wind, or anything.

Of course I could have spent ages and loads on products/tongs etc. but that just wasn't "me" - so I didn't.

In the end I gave up and grew it out. Far happier.

ohcluttergotme · 06/09/2012 08:41

Got a big, thick fringe cut 2 years and loved it to begin with but was then such a faff so grew out, have it cut it aggain twice and I'm now growing it out for the 3rd time! Do absolutely love it when it's done but for me day to day it's just too much faffing!!

Mollydoggerson · 06/09/2012 08:42

Fringe cutting cycle going on here too. I like em go for it. The moaning about growing them out is all part of the fun.

Once they have grown down a bit they blend into the rest of your hair.

LarkinSky · 06/09/2012 08:43

For ten years I've been in a fringe-cutting cycle that satisfies my 'need to change my look' urges. I get a full fringe cut into my long straight hair every three years or so, I usually keep it for a year, then get bored of it, grow it out into 'face-framing layers' (hairdresser speak), then repeat the cycle 2 years later.

I'm mid 30s now and I must say, a fringe takes years off me - last fringe had be being accused of of being a 20-something graduate intern rather than my actual more senior job!

NB hairdressers will do fringe trims for free or a fiver max without appointment, so I maintain it my just nipping into any hairdressers I happen to be passing every 2 months or so.

Go for it! Think you've prompted me to have another chop too...
