Dye it, henna it, or highlights?

My natural colour is a very flat mousey brown, so lends itself to a range of colours. I've now got patches of grey and am finding dye just doesn't conceal it for long enough.
I tried permanent brown dye, but it's faded to a vile ginger that doesn't seem to want to leave!
Where do I go from here? Persevere with dye, or build up highlights - do they hide the grey better?

Or henna? How do you gauge the end result?

I henna a lot...I used to dye pretty much every colour - I have similar hair, mousey with some reddish highlights though. The lush henna is great, gives fantastic shine I find, you can get the red but also brown and marron, a king of reddish brown. I have always used the rouge, after several uses it has built up to a proper fiery red - I love it and get lots of comments, but it might not be your thing.

It is messy, but when it fades I find it does it naturally. Greys go really red, and it sort of adds a varnish of colour on your natural colour. Theres none of that horrible straw hair either.

However, it does stink, and is messy. I have got a knack with the mess, do it overnight, but the smell does linger - I did mine a week ago, and still when my hair is wet I can get a faint whiff - I added essential oils this time and some rosemary - but it didn't help much!

Oh, and you can't gauge the end result, it is a leap of faith! bit scary...

If I went for the brown or brown/red, what colour do you think the greys would go?

I also have some highlights, wonder what would happen to them. Grin

Yes, my current disaster is a mixture of orangey brown, flat mousey roots and highlights. Grin

I would go to a good hairdresser and get some colour and highlights put in
