Please find me some work dresses.

I desperately need a couple of proper formal work dresses. Day to day I can be a bit more casual but I have felt underdressed in a couple of meetings and want to ramp up my style a bit. I am 5' 9 and a size 10. Ideally I am looking for a couple of traditionalish navy /grey/ black shifts which finish above the knee and preferably with short sleeves or something I can put a thin top underneath in winter.

I have literally searched the entire high street and not found anything suitable. I don't really want to pay Hobbs prices but am starting to think that I have no other option.

That Cos stuff is awful. What's with the pop-socks?!

I has a quick look in M&S yesterday but couldn't see anything.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I have bought a Hobbs dress online and I am going to make a trip to Matalan as suggested, the seem to have a great selection but I don't want to order online as l am not sure what their sizing is like.

Love the banana republic and LK Bennett ones. I really can't justify over £200 on a dress though at the moment as I am going to have to buy a decent winter work coat this year which will be more than that I think.

I bought this dress recently from M & S and it is really lovely - had a few compliments. Looks great with a cropped cardigan but won't suit a jacket.

I have a professional job and find the dresses in M&S great for work. Good quality and washable too. Their Insolia shoes are great too for a heel with comfort.

Austin Reed do great shift dresses, and again you can pick them up in their outlets. I also buy a lot of my work wear from planet, again great quality.

I like that M&S one. I had a straight style in my head but I do actually prefer flared and I have lots of nice cardigans to put with it.

Off to look at Jaegar and Planet now
