Searching for the perfect work shoes

I fully accept these probably don't exist but I need some work shoes which I can:
Wear for school run (so not too high)
Wear through the winter (so not too flimsy / open)
Use with all my work trousers (navy slim fit long & ankle cropped, dark grey slim fit ankle crop and black straight leg pair).

Everything seems either too lightweight or looks a bit granny-ish but am sure something must exist...

Any suggestions on style, colour or links to suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have just bought a pair of lace ups, black brogue flats made from some suedish looking material that takes off a bit of the harshness/darkness of leather. (17.99 so don't think they are real leather!) I did try the shiny patent version but thought Nah! I have worn them around the house for a couple of days and out in real life today and found them comfortable even for cycling in. They look good with houndstooth check trousers, very spiffin! And obviously plain black (I had to have a small fashion show for myself!)
I wore them with a navy skirt for work and they actually looked pretty good. I am very fussy when it comes to work shoes, my last four pair where slighly wedged, not a proper heel but not quiet flat, black slip ons (leather) full footed with a line of stitching at each side. I had a brown pair also. I wasn't as confident with them with skirts though as I thought they seemed a bit clumpy, but I wore them all weathers cycling to work and back, school run (literally sometimes!) and actual work and wore them out!
I must admit when contemplating replacements for my trusty slip ons I did consider brothel creepers or shoes with tassles! but I didn't think work would be too impressed with the first and I didn't see any tassles I really liked.
I bought my brogues from the high street www.deichmann.com/GB/en/shop/welcome.html (graceland) and the slip ons from a Clarks outlet for about £20.00. something a bit heeled like these... www.clarks.co.uk/p/20342696
Hope this is of some use and that you get sorted!

Thank you. Was tempted by brogues but only saw patent and black & white ones, which were a bit ott for me. Suede sounds good though, will check out the links.
