Can I find a coat similar to this Boden one in a shop (where I can try it)?

I'm thinking of buying this velvet coat from Boden

www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Coats-Jackets/Coats/WE342/Womens-Heritage-Velvet-Coat.html?NavGroupID=2

but was wondering if there is any similar (same price) in a high street shop (in London) where I can take a look at it and try it before buying? I'm looking for something a bit Willy Wonka-like, so it is purple or the velvet is a bit shinier it is ok.

PS: How is Boden's sizing? I've never bought from them, so I don't know if I should buy my normal size, smaller or bigger. (they have a "sizing software", but I didn't like it very much)

White Stuff usually offer a velvet coat or two but I believe there is a Boden store in London, no?

boden coats come up small across the shoulders. If you are planning on wearing a decent knit beneath definitely size up.

I m a size 8 in and tall - have the velvet coat in a blue from a few seasons ago - it fit well - I usually find it difficult to get sleeves long enough
In coats - must have weirdly long arms Grin hth

schroedingersdodo Did you know that there is a Boden shop in London. It can be a bit of a trek to it depending on where you live but it's worth it if you want to try something specific on

GobblersKnob · 05/09/2012 13:07

Seeing as returns and postage are free why don't you just get a couple and try them on? Trying on something similar isn't the same.

I find Boden is usually too short in the arms and body but generally too big iyswim.

I'm a lardy and lumpy 14, but need a 10 in Boden coats - there's a 20% off code that expires today and their velvet coats are usually lovely and last ages, so I agree with Gobblers, order a few.

Thanks, ladies.

I ended up buying one, in the one colour that will take 14 WEEKS to be delivered! I can't afford spending £200 or £300 to receive it in three months, and only then returning 2 of them.

If it doesn't fit well I'll exchange or return it. Anyway, it's not that bad, as I'm pregnant now and the coat will arrive after the baby - and I wouldn't be able to wear it with the bump anyway.

Thanks again for your help and hope it will fit. Anyway, I have 14 weeks to forget about the whole thing before worrying about that :)

OP If you are still reading- you aren't charged for the items until they are despatched- so your card won't show it for another x number of weeks.

20% offer run s out tonight then it's 15% Thursday.

schroedingersdodo · 07/09/2012 10:47

Hi Missbopeep, I had no idea it would take 14 weeks to be charged. That will really mess everything up.

I have the money now, and there is a serious risk there won't be much money in the account when they decide to charge for it... (we keep very little money in the account usually, most of it is always in the savings account).

Well, thanks for letting me know.

I bought the other velvet coat from Boden and was told it would take a similarly long time, but it ended up being delivered 2 weeks late instead. You just never know with Boden which I agree is very frustrating if you're purchasing said expensive item because you have the money now.

schroedingersdodo · 07/09/2012 22:29

Lambskin, I thought maybe the 14 weeks deadline was more of a "within 14 weeks" limit. Let's see what happens (and hopefully they'll charge when I have the money :)
