Hi, I've had a good wardrobe clear out over the last 6 months and I think I have a decent selection of clothes. My problem is, I have no imagination, I just can't picture what top will go with which bottoms (apart from really obvious & therefore boring ideas)

How do I go about working out what I can wear? I looked at that '31 outfits from 13 items', and although inspiring, I can't picture my stuff in there instead, IYSWIM?

Help, stylish ones...!

I have sketchbooks full of anything and everything I see in magazines or catalogues that I love. I have one for each season. It gives me inspiration for shopping, has helped me develop my own style and helps on those mornings where you spend ten minutes staring at the contents of the wardrobe declaring you have nothing to wear....!

Others seems to be using Pinterest and other social media sources. Personally, I prefer something physical than virtual

I have LOTS of mornings when I stand at the wardrobe looking blank...

I'm in between old fashion and internet. I like looking at "formula" for outfit. For example this summer alot of women where wearing blouses so I looked at what they were wearing it with -- so I could try and get the look with what I already have.

i also look at magazines and even catalogues on how to pull looks together.

I found the 31 outfits out of 13 items interesting and would even consider buying a current version if BR or another company put it forward (yes I'm that boring).

I feel as if I need someone to look at each item and say 'this would go with that, or that, or the other'

Do I need to get a stylist to come & help me?

Personally, that's my main reason for using Pinterest.
By following people whose style and choices I like I've learned quite a bit (currently obsessed with certain basic building blocks: classic white shirts, pleated leather skirts, midi skirts, the use of chambray and denim-on-denim)
Seeing looks on others helps me to see them on myself - I also get help with the difficult bits and connecting pieces.

But I would recommend spending time with a stylish friend or a personal shopper or stylist. I went to COS recently with a fashion blogger friend - having her running commentary was eye-opening and I found two pieces that I really love.

thank you all for your suggestions, I have started on Pinterest this week, need to apply myself to translating what I find on there to what I have in my wardrobe.

I'm very tempted by colour / style analysis, might ask for it for Xmas...
