I'm 5.8", should I be shopping in the tall department?

I have always had a problem finding clothes to fit my long body, especially sleeves and shoulders coming up too short on my arms and tight across my back.

It only occurred to me yesterday while thinking how tedious it would be to find a winter coat to fit my long arms, that I may need to be shopping in the tall section. But I have always assumed this was for super tall could be basketballer's.

Is 5.8" really that tall?

I'm 5'6" and often buy talk trousers because my legs are quite long. Tall ranges can be different in different shops. Try some stuff and see how you get on!

I'm 5ft 7" and I've just bought a La Redoute Taillissime coat and I'm chuffed with it.

My legs are average (in fact I SWEAR everything is getting longer, as I only buy regular length trousers these days after buying 32+" as a teen) but this coat is great as it's long enough on the arms.

Thanks ladies!

I don't have time as I recently moved house to go out shopping but desperately need new clothes as I haven't bought anything since I got pregnant; my DD is about to turn one!

I am going to do some online shopping which is why I needed some opinions.

I didn't know La Redoute had a tall collection, I might start there!

I went down a size when I started shopping in the tall section -all those too tight shirts that pull around the arms? -it's because the arms are in the wrong place, not because I'm a bloater! yay!

if you are 5ft 8 and can easily find trousers long enough, this would suggest you are long in the body so definitely look at the tall ranges (but be prepared for them feeling too longas you are used to everything being on the short side)

I like dorothy perkins -full range on the web -not a huge range but worth a look

See, I'm 5'8 and it's PITA. Trousers for 'standard' height people are too short, and clothes for taller people (Long Tall Sally for e.g) are too long and drag on the floor. Bloody irritating.

Watching.

That's what I'm suspecting is my problem but was worried I may be too short for the tall ranges as TGDFT has described.

Oh boy, I see a lot of measuring myself in the mirror on the horizon Grin

I am 5'8" and look at the "tall" and "long" ranges, mainly because I have long legs. I've never noticed a problem with shirts fitting, but sometimes the sleeves are a bit too short!

5'8" is definitely tall for a woman, isn't it? I think 5'4" is the UK average.

It's worth trying the tall stuff, though it may vary between different brands and shops (this is certainly the case for petite ranges anyway).
