For anyone who likes to talk about style, nice stuff that they've bought and so on.

Popcornia - I bought a work bag at Goyard years ago (think 2000) and it is still beautiful and amazingly practical as it fits a laptop, A4 files and all sorts of stuff as well.

In an ideal world, I think one should shop right at the beginning of each new season (September/February) and right at the beginning of the sales (which means before the sales, because one is a favoured customer, here in Paris).

MarshaBrady · 18/09/2012 10:00

Pop yes please make at home. Have a thread in good housekeeping with others who are considering the best one. (Why can't I copy URL on iPhone there must be a way to link.)

Anyway will bump so you can find it or click on my profile and it should be there.

FritziGreenEyes · 18/09/2012 10:50

bonsoir How about these these brocade skinny JBrands or maybe these? Or just a plain pair to go with your new Prada cardi?

Shopafrolic

I'm not sure whether it'll be 'evening-y' enough but how about the Bryn bag from Mulberry?

www.mulberry.com/?gclid=CJyMlKGBv7ICFeTHtAodQHEA7A#/storefront/search/7584/moreviews/bryn/

I've also found Tory Burch to be decent quality -

www.theoutnet.com/product/328030

This Michael Kors is interesting -

www.theoutnet.com/product/169322

Not sure if this classic Gucci is cross body but it'll never date-

www.net-a-porter.com/product/310694

This Chloe Marcie is lovely. It'd probably be my choice as it will suit evening if it's not too dressy and day-

www.net-a-porter.com/product/322268

I'm not normally a fan of Anya Hindmarch but this could go cross body

www.net-a-porter.com/product/312341

And Reed Krakoff for something less obvious -

www.net-a-porter.com/product/318098

And finally this Marc Jacobs has that luxe quilted look made so iconic by another designer (tongue firmly in cheek here) -

DonaAna · 18/09/2012 12:43

IssimmaGrin patchwork efforts (my mother loves a good jumble sale and is prone to gigantic lapses of judgment when she smells a bargain - I don't think she will ever get that I don't do boho/hippy). Plus enjoy guilt-free loungewear!

Am about to burn bin all my remaining H&M and Mamalicious nursing tees - accidentally found a slightly yellowed one today Confused

Cannot believe it - finished the long to-do list in record time. Currently budgeting (not personal expenses, work budgets)

Wearing APC denim shirt with the necktie untied (perfect on me - plus side slits the best for a slight pear), fuchsia lipstick, pearls and paler sky-blue skinnies. Yes, full-on denim-on-denim.

Mig will save link porn for the next break...

mignonette · 18/09/2012 12:48

Oh god Shop....I didn't see the 'classic black' specification.....Sorry. Some of my links have a black colourway.

Blame it on HMRC - Have just screamed at them down the telephone after spending 45 minutes ploughing through their interminable phone 'options, then being placed on hold. Their automated message states that once applied for a UTR number will take 14 working days. We are still waiting after 6 weeks and when I raised this with the HMRC advisor she had the nerve to deny that it'd take this long and was actually a month's wait. She pretty much called me untruthful for stating that I'd been told this by their own recorded information.

Well, I lost it and dropped the F bomb on her. What makes me even more enraged is that you cannot even email them regarding UTR numbers. Their email system is very select regarding what topics can be addressed.

Of course there is no wait if you want to call to pay........

Bonsoir · 18/09/2012 13:05

Fritzi - both pairs are really nice, though I especially like the first pair. What I need to do is go to Printemps, where there is a big J Brand selection, and try a load on, and then I need to order them in the US and have them delivered to DP's hotel in NY when he is there.

Which is kind of a pain, but will be a big £££ saving!

shopafrolic · 18/09/2012 13:45

Thank you Mignonette - don't worry at all about the classic black statement - it will do her good to get out of her comfort zone! I've emailed them to her and fallen a little / lot in love with the Chloe too!
DH had a similar call with the electricity company last night, apparently our usage has gone up 50% and we have no idea how or why! They were v unhelpful to say the least!
I hate phone options. Best bet which sometimes works is to not start going through the options, just stay on the line. They will assume you don't have a touchtone phone and someone should answer. Still works for me with most companies I call!

DonaAna · 18/09/2012 14:17

Brief break (yay, budget done!), Outnet has great How To Wear tutorials for AW stuff. Do not buy anything - just see whether you can do one or more looks with what you already have. I found can do Color Blocking, Statement Pants (yeah I know Hmm), Modern Lady (even worse... and it's my favorite look, wouldn't you know) and the Statement Skirt without any new purchases. And no, I don't do Mix&Match (have learned not to).

DonaAna · 18/09/2012 14:25

Oh and if you would like to feel like strangling someone, warmly recommend watching the Statement Skirt video. Like, now. Confused

mignonette · 18/09/2012 14:59

Oh Dona....I have taken your advice and watched it and it has made me laugh through my tears. If she considers herself 'edgy' then I fell off the cliff a long time ago.

Shop Glad my links weren't a total disaster. I do love that little Chloe too. It has such a great curve to it and seems to have some substance in its construction as far as I can tell from my forensic examination of the photo's 's Grin without weighing your DG's shoulder down.

I saw this gorgeous china range from Norway mentioned in Saturday's Guardian magazine and pinned it. So delicate and the other ranges are lovely too. I have also pinned some gorgeous black cook ware by a company called Tierra Negra. My mother has the casserole dish and it is THE most tactile object, a giant hot pebble when it's sitting on the table .

here's the Norwegian china link-

I love the china mignonette - not just the pattern but the handle - it looks as though you could wrap your hand right round the entire cup - beautiful.

mignonette · 18/09/2012 16:38

I would dare not use it. Just sit and adore it from a safe distance!

DonaAna · 18/09/2012 16:48

Shop My journalist friends say magazines are dying because everyone thinks bloggers and other social media stars are cooler/more down-to-earth/easier to relate to - plus they offer their content for free and it's often really high level expertise (I've learned a lot more from blogs and online forums than from magazines). The most influential bloggers, like The Sartorialist, can also attract paid advertisers.

This is why Vogue Paris now features Garance Doré, Outnet courts style bloggers, etc. My cosmetic/perfume/fashion blogger friends get amazing access, they are invited to events and launches (because they provide visibility and are influential tastemakers among their peers), the marketers and PR people seek them out, often completely bypassing traditional media. I've maintained a few forums myself and have enjoyed the perks (too busy for that now with paid work. but am still on some invitation lists). And bloggers are generally aware of new things much before the media (my friends pitched a story to mainstream media - it's now news in glossies, perhaps 1-3 years after it made headlines in the blogosphere).

Mig am always happy when Nordic designers do well Grin

Cannot quite believe it - have accomplished what I wanted to do today. Shock Next: selecting capsule wardrobe for 4 sunny but work-filled days & packing.

mignonette · 18/09/2012 17:09

I could never be without my printed media. Never. Have just shoved Kindle in a drawer after learning that I do not own the books I download onto it, merely licensing them instead.

Dona We're Scandi/Nordic mad here. I spent a lot of Summers in Malmo as a child so very dear to me.

Hopefully · 18/09/2012 20:09

Dona that style blogger is fantastically irritating! fab hair though.

I have worked through YAWYW (fabulous book, not a lot of exactly new information, but presented in a way that makes it very straightforward and not-scary to sort a wardrobe out. Hope to be as good when I finish training on wardrobe decluttering stuff!) and am reading Overdressed as my downstairs book and the 100 as my upstairs book

MarshaBrady · 18/09/2012 20:10

I'm a big fan of the magazine, even if the content is online. But still like the format and style over blogs. But do like pin over blogs too. The Sartorialist is definitely one of the early very good ones.

I agree traditional publishing needs to step up to compete and is losing market share. Dh does some online thing and gets invitations due to high number of hits, as you say Dona. Sadly nothing I can have for free!

He's out somewhere tonight doing some thing.

Mignonette I love printed stuff too, but am happy with online for style stuff, as it is so amorphous and what I want to look at depends on my mood. Novels etc I like having paper. Am well into audiobooks too, am contemplating 2 year subscription to Audible as it makes it so much cheaper.

MarshaBrady · 18/09/2012 20:15

Have watched the style thing, think she's a bit nervous!
