If you're 42 with ample thighs what's the alternative to skinny jeans?

I think I'm a reasonable looking 42 and I'm not fat, 5'7 and size 10 in a full skirt, 12 in a fitted skirt, but I do carry my weight round my thighs, so in skinny jeans I would need a 14 which would then be far to big round the waist and not at all flattering.

I've tried straight leg which look frumpy to me and bootleg seem very dated, so what else is there? I'd pay a decent amount of money for a good pair.

I have just ordered these www.mintvelvet.co.uk/indigo-skinny-jeans/jeans/mint-v/fcp-product/2452 they look like jeans but the materially is beautifully soft so they aren't tight at all and are quite flattering, I'm 42 as well and I don't think they are mutton dressed as lamb.

I'm a true 14 and the 14 fits fine, so if you tried the right size then they should be ok.

I am 41 and ample of thigh and 14/16. I have just discovered the joy of the straight leg - seems to sit well between skinny jean beanpole teen/frumpy bootleg. I am currently wearing these Mavi Mona jeans, which I got for £25 at TKMaxx.

Try the oasis cherry high waisted jeans. I find them flattering and fashionable and am same age as you

Rookie what is the rise like on your new MV jeans? They look high? Anything to keep my middle region contained is a necessity.

I've worn skinnies for years but have recently gone off them and now favour boyfriend jeans with a baggy top - the combo makes me feel sexy and casual at the same time. realitychicblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/boyfriend-jeans.jpg Think Rachel Bilson, she always looks great - I'm loving this look now much more than skinnies.

Oh and I'm 41 with no hips!!!

Less · 01/09/2012 22:24

bucketbetty - that's exactly what I wear, but the last remaining pair I have are showing their age and I haven't been able to find anything similar in the shops which made me think they'd probably seen their day.

Also, I could do with something that can be dressed up a bit occasionally.

Am similar size to you and very prone to the sausage thigh effect but love skinnies and do wear them. I have found that so long as you balance the shape usually with a baggy top half or long cardigan or layers it can look ok. Also try skinnies with more elastane in which fit at thje waist and will gradually mould to your hips/thighs.

Hi OP they haven't arrived in the post yet and I can't quite remember from trying them on, I think they are at belly button level

Marenostrum · 02/09/2012 15:25

I see more and more bootcut, or flared, jeans in the shops so they seem to be making a comeback. Why don't you try some in coloured denim, nothing too drastic but maybe an olive green or a plum to feel more up to date? They really are the best option to balance a big thigh, and they elongate the legs.
