Has anyone dyed a leather jacket?

I've got a camel coloured one that I bought from Reiss. It used to be dark camel but it's been in the sun a bit and faded a lot.

Has anyone tried this? (not personally, I mean in a leather jacket dyer shop!)

I've been wondering about this as I have a Mint Velvet one that has done the same. It was a beautiful golden fudge colour but has faded partly due to lots of wear and specialist dry cleaning. Will see if you get any helpful responses.

Don't think anyone has Monkey. Do you want to try first and then let me know Smile

I did a suede one in the washer. It was a nice colour but dried very stiff.

I dyed some leather boots once, from mid-blue to black. Did it myself with a bottle of dye and it worked a treat. A jacket would be harder to do yourself, but I'm sure a professional wouldz be able to tell you if it would work.

If you wouldn't wear the jacket again what have you got to lose?

I'm pretty gung ho about dying, I've done clothes, shoes and bags, but I think I'd draw the line at a leather jacket. You would need to use a deglazer to take the 'top layer' off the leather so the dye would penetrate, then getting the dye on evenly is hard enough on a small item but i imagine it would be very difficult on a jacket. I have considered it myself as I have a Comptior jacket that faded badly, but I've always chickened out in the end!

Having said that I have been hankering after a navy leather jacket lately and came across a bottle of navy leather dye in a cupboard the other day, so......

I've got a very pale suade one that has stained on the arms that I'd like to die darker - I don't wear it as it is so nothing to lose. Anyone tried dying suede not in the washing machine?
