Evening/clutch bag

Likeaheadlesschicken · 29/08/2012 22:21

I have a serious gap in my wardrobe for an evening bag/clutch.

I am looking for something in a neutral/cream or gold colour, I have a slight penchant for designer bags so may be tempted to splash out a little!

Any recommendations?

Budget?? Anya Hindmarch and Mulberry have some nice options, I could go on but depends how much you are looking to "invest" Wink

crazyaccountant · 29/08/2012 22:50

Examples
www.anyahindmarch.com/cat/Clutch/888/
www.mulberry.com/store/categories/women%27s%5Fbags/clutch%5Fbags/
Or 190 to choose from here, I challenge you not to find one suitable on NAP!

I have a McQueen DeManta that I love more than I care to admit in public. They do a couple of colour each season.

My budget is v.flexible! I have a small handbag collection but each piece has been an investment which I am happy for this to be!

I love the demanta hopefully and like the olive green they have done this season but am not sure it is going to complement my existing wardrobe, I am a "light....with soft and warm
undertones" (CMB) so it fits my colour palette, but the majority of my wardrobe is cream, coral, and navy (dreading the onset of autumn winter dressing!) so feel a neutral bag would be better.

I have looked at anya Crazy Accountant and like the Tiny Tim, I especially like the fact that I could use it with the strap for daytime if I wanted to.

I really would love a Chanel 2.55 or jumbo flap but just don't think I can justify the price, I would be devestated if anything got spilt on it when out, and am slightly concerned by that fact that every character in the only way is essex seems to own one......

Did you really repost just to put 2 words into bold??

DonaAna · 30/08/2012 11:28

OP I have about the same brief and have been looking forever.
Already have a black 2.55 (am not from Essex ;) ) but would like have a beige or cream clutch. Have been thinking about a Miss Dior (I think the chain can be removed) but haven't reached any conclusive deciosion yet. I have two other Dior bags and find them quite practical and carefree. A small Lady Dior is also a possibility.

I like the chanel 2.55 if I had £££ to spend. Its a Classic.

crazyaccountant · 30/08/2012 18:00

Yes the Chanel/TOWIE collaboration is something I am particularly annoyed with! Surely Paul's boutique is more there style Wink
I am currently lusting after a large bottega but there are some fabulous clutches -
www.bottegaveneta.co.uk/default/shop-products/Womens/designer-handbags/clutches
I think bottega is very understated and classic if you are looking for something you will use for years. YSL have also done a nice clutch recently I will find a link and as poster above says Dior do some nice pieces, although my saddle bags are now in the back of the cupboard! tries to forget how much I spent on them

Likeaheadlesschicken · 30/08/2012 20:28

I really like the Miss Dior DonaAna but when I've done some research you can't alter the strap to wear it in different ways which is one of the things I love most about the Chanel classic flaps...

The Chanel is possibly my dream bag, but is circa £3k which is an horrendous amount of money to spend on a bag, I feel that I would be concerned about using it incase it attracts unwanted attention (mind you with the number of fakes and high street "inspired by Chanel" bags would people even realise it was genuine and want to steal it!!)

I am in a real quandary, I want to find something that will meet all my needs and still make me feel that I have purchased something that I will love and be proud to own, but I don't want to buy something and then still feel I want the Chanel (have been here before twice!) I can see why you sill haven't found your perfect bag DonaAna

I love the idea of Bottega Crazyaccountant but the one I liked was £5k (crocodile typically!) having said that even with a much reduced price tag it still isn't hitting the spot!. Liking the sound of YSL though so would welcome any links!

What's everyone's view of Anya Hindmarch? I haven't got any of her bags, but still associate her mostly with those photographic totes that first made her famous, that and the sainsburys shopper she produced that was sold out forever!

crazyaccountant I really used to lust after those saddle bags, I remember gazing at them adoringly in selfridges as a young whipper snapper!

I have an AH Mini Gracie - have not worn it all that much tbh.

A lambskin Chanel is very sensitive to scratching and marking. It comes with gloves for polishing and handling it. Slightly too faffy although lovely and perhaps the bag I love most. But no good for everyday wear - what will you do if it rains? And I can't even start thinking how sensitive a beige or cream bag would be. The jumbo or maxi is insanely expensive, about 5000 USD when I last checked.

My two New Lock Diors have a chain that can be worn two ways, long and short. Can be detached too. The python is easier than lambskin, I use them as my everyday bags when in Italy.

All that said, most of the days I am wearing my humble Zatchels and a bombproof Mulberry Lily. Do not need to worry about them getting wet.

Loopy4got · 30/08/2012 20:49

Ooh Anya Hindmarch Valorie clutch. I bought myself a glitter one before Christmas. I just LOVE to hear the words "going out for dinner" so I can run and grab it, and then set it on the table and admire it all evening!

I do envy you about to go out and buy a new evening bag, no better shopping in my opinion. What fun!

Do let us know what you got x

Likeaheadlesschicken · 30/08/2012 21:00

Funny you should say that Dona I did look at the Lily's last night, have you got the normal lily or the large one? Can you thread the chain back through it like the Chanel to allow it to be carried as a clutch?

I do love mulberry as a brand and am very happy with the ones I own. Might have a look at the new lock Dior's too though.

I was tempted on a bright green zatchel earlier in the summer but resisted, I think I'm a bit too much of a classic to carry it off! Do love them though!

Decisions decisions....

Likeaheadlesschicken · 30/08/2012 21:07

Thanks Loopy I'll check out valerie!

I'll report back when/if I find my perfect bag, must also start planning places to take it!

OP posts:
DonaAna · 30/08/2012 21:10

I am a classic and love my bright green Zatchel. Wear it often with my D&G boucle jacket. It tones down my übertraditional clothes a bit and I love the slight clash. You don't want to know this but you can get at least 35 Zatchels for the price of one 2.55 - and it's brilliant in rain and doesn't scratch. No evening bag obviously.

My Lily is small and a strange nontraditional one - the storm blue version with a gunmetal chain. Have been lusting after a traditonal small Lily (the Snowball one) because love silver HW in bags but only at outlet prices. Will wait.

Got, I do sound shallow Grin

crazyaccountant · 30/08/2012 21:13

Here is the link for YSL,
www.net-a-porter.com/product/322106
Or
www.net-a-porter.com/product/322113
They both come in a selection of colours.
Have you considered a vuitton? They do some very nice clutches in their non-monogrammed ranges.
Other consideration could be Fendi, I have a few baguettes and honesty have been worn to death and still look great. Gucci also often do some non-monogrammed pieces but colours and designs are very seasonal so depends if they currently have anything that tickles your handbag fancy.

I have a few Anya bags (including the "I'm not a plastic bag" she did that you mention!) and found them good quality.

Other ideas, Jimmy Choo now have a range of bags including many clutches, Prada also may be worth a look for you. What a nice problem to have Grin

Likeaheadlesschicken · 01/09/2012 23:03

Gulp....I've done it....finally succumbed to the 2.55 in a slightly metallic gold (it's very subtle) and I absolutely love it!!!

OP posts:
crazyaccountant · 01/09/2012 23:28

claps congrats! Fabulous choice I am very Envy still haven't got my 2.55 (house move last year put paid to that!) but I am now working on it again!

Likeaheadlesschicken · 02/09/2012 07:59

Do it! I love everything about it, except the price. However, I do fully
believe it will be an investment and if kept in great condition will retain most of its value.

If it had been black it would have been a better financial investment, but I can't wear black so that was a huge no for me, plus I'm buying a bag not shares so your heart has got to over rule your head slightly!!

OP posts:
Loopy4got · 02/09/2012 11:03

OMG!! How exciting. I didnt even know it was called a 2.55 (DUH!!) Oh that is just so exciting. Go on tell, how much..........

DonaAna · 02/09/2012 13:18

Great Chicken - hope you'll enjoy it. Subtle gold sounds lovely.
I just saw a like-new 2.55 in a consignment shop for about 1000 ? under the current retail price - worth keeping in mind.
