In need of winter coat

So I know it's a bit early, but looking outside is it?! I haven't spent a decent amount of money on a winter coat in 10 years. I have been scraping by with coats on offer usually in the region of £30. I'm a mum now and I want to be nice and warm so this might require investing in something decent!

I have no budget (i.e. no money) but would be willing to scrape together £100 to buy something decent. I am in the process of losing weight and have so far lost a stone but am probably looking at a size 18 coat as I've always needed a size up from my actual clothes size due to overly chunky upper arms Sad.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for really but want something lovely. I've always wanted a nice red winter coat or a decent parka. I've had a look on the high street but can't find anything that inspires me. Since coming on the S&B board I've discovered so many other places to buy lovely clothes from so was hoping that all you MNers might have recently purchased some lovely winter coats!

marking my place I could almost have written your post myself in fact are you sure your not me?!?!

I hate to say it but IMO Boden has nice winter coats. I have a boiled wool one now into its 3rd year and it's as good as new.

They tend to be around £150 but if you look hard you might find a 20% discount somewhere- there's a 15% one around at the mo.

If you want a bit cheaper, try Top Shop, Dotty Ps, stores like Debenhams and John Lewis own brand- and don't dismiss M&S or Next.

It's a tiny bit too soon- most stock arrives mid Sept for coats.

Lizzy, have you got an outlet village near you? They are often good places for a quality winter coat.

GobblersKnob · 30/08/2012 12:11

Worth having a look in TK Maxx on online.

canyou · 30/08/2012 12:22

Try Villa online I always get my winter coat there, good quality and very reasonable

NotYouNaanBread · 30/08/2012 12:29

Would you consider ebay? For instance have a look at this LK Bennett coat on ebay just now (NOT my auction!).

cornycrocskin · 30/08/2012 12:34

i have a boden one also good as new about 3 years old! I would wait for the boden sale if you can. Or keep an eye out in TK Maxx.

I got a north face artic one last year, wore it with everything. Keeps you cozy and looks smart too

Worth the money

LittlePandaBear · 30/08/2012 20:19

Nice red winter coat for you from Monsoon, just in budget!

nothingoldcanstay · 30/08/2012 22:04

Yep but the Monsoon one will be in the sale come January at 70% off - it'll break her heart.
This years coats are massive manly shapeless things by all accounts ... looks like the fitted military dress coat style is going to be looking dated (just brought one at La Redoute for £30 so I won't be fashionable for a while).

There was a cool jacket in Red magazine last month from Warehouse. Sheepskin and on trend at £95. Will be on the website in September apparently

Marks and Spencer had a parka in yesterday when I looked. It was part of the indigo collection. OP what about Evans?
