Ladies of S&B, is there a coat out there to meet these criteria?

I need a(nother) coat to see me through from autumn to spring. It must be warm. It must be waterproof. It must have a hood. It would e best if it was bum length rather than knee length. I will chiefly wearing it whilst standing at the school gates, in a spot where the wind whistles down of a hill and there is no shelter from the rain. I have two years of this ahead of me - brrr!

It mustn't be a down coat because I think that wouldn't be suitable for milder but wet autumn and spring days. That means, I think, that e much lauded Merrell is off the list.

For dryer days I have a Ralph Lauren down filled jacket and a Barbour so it's really something to deal with the relentless rain which is required.

I think I'm describing an outdoor coat such as a Northface/Jack Wolfskin/Berghaus which has the option of a fleece being zipped in or out but I don't really want a performance-type coat. Would much rather something more fashionable.

Any ideas please? Smile

have you had a look in Uniqlo? They're quite good at that kind of thing

Millie1 · 29/08/2012 11:18

No, I hadn't thought of Uniqlo - shall look now.

Any other ideas please?

Uniqlo

Millie1, I just had a look on the Uniqlo website and I really fancy this one. What do you think?

Merrell Wakefield ticks your boxes, it's the perfect raincoat - comes in insulated version or not. Prob non insulated best, is utterly rainproof. Is possibly a bit long for you, stops just above my knees and am 5'6". It's v smart IMO.

Millie1 · 29/08/2012 11:35

That's quite nice Lotta but not waterproof. The Merrell - can only find insulated. Maybe I should try it on before I totally discount it.

Going to post a few links for opinions please but will have to post separately because every time I put them into one post I lose the post each time I try to copy another link.

Love the Barbour Redsdale! Prices of the others are Shock but I guess you would probably have them forever

Millie1 · 29/08/2012 11:51

Darn, kids calling. Coat hunt over for now!

I have an older version of the Barbour Redsdale and it is very nice - warm and waterproof. I might be worth checking a Barbour outlet if you have one near you as I only paid £45 for mine a couple of years ago.

Millie1 · 29/08/2012 12:50

How long is it on you Dexter? Is it bum-covering?

dexter73 · 29/08/2012 12:55

Yes, it comes about halfway down my thighs (I am 5'7").

Millie1 · 29/08/2012 13:08

Sounds perfect - thanks. Think I'll order both colours to try.
