We are going to the revival in September. Any ideas what I should wear? (Tall size 16 hourglass)
And what about DH and the kids? (One boy, one girl)

From the FAQ:

What is the dress code

Answer:

Although not compulsory, the vast majority of Revival visitors dress in period style with many going to great lengths to achieve that authentic look. The resulting step-back-in-time spectacle plays a key role in making the Revival such a unique event.

While you're not required to dress up (unless you qualify for central Paddock access, in which a jacket and tie is necessary for gentlemen, and a dress or suit for the ladies), you?ll feel much more involved if you do. And whether you go for the slick urban look, gentrified country style or chocs-away military look, it?s not difficult or costly to dress appropriately.

and here.

What sort of budget are you (and DP and DCs) on? What's your colouring?

trixymalixy · 25/08/2012 10:00

It sounds like you would suit a 50s dress. have a look here

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 10:07

VoH dresses are beautiful but very pricey, certainly by the time you've added a petticoat, some cheaper but still authentic looking options

same in blue
the LadyV site is well worth a scour

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 10:08

How old are your DC BTW?

BombusBombus · 25/08/2012 10:57

My kids are 7 dd and 3 ds. Budget is up to £100 for an outfit I could wear again. I've read the faqs, just wondered if anyone had been, or what was about that is suitable.

OP posts:
BombusBombus · 25/08/2012 10:58

I'm pale with dark hair.

I've been and people really do make a massive effort to look the part. A lot of the men wear uniform and there will be some beautiful dresses on display.

When we went DH wore an airforce uniform and I wore a big, petticoated skirt, tucked in blouse, neck scarf and a beret. Having said that we took the classic Maserati we owned at the time so really wanted to look the part.

If you google the event you'll see lots of pictures of the types of things people wear.

Having said all that there will be people in normal dress but IME the people dressed up outweigh those not dressed up 3:1.

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 11:46

DC are should be easy, I think, how about this for DS with a cloth cap if you van stretch.

For DD how about [http://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Floral-Print-Dress-with-Gold-Belt/LW8166,default,pd.html?cm_sp=ProductFeatures--Category%2520landing--Mothercare%2520Floral%2520Print%2520Dress%2520with%2520Gold%2520Belt this]], with this as a petticoat? Or this? Something along those lines, depends what she'll accept .

We'll struggle to come in at 100 for dress, cover up, bag, shoes & hat. Do you have anything accessory wise that we could work from? Did you like any of the dresses I linked to before?

As far as DP goes I'm pretty much clueless, might it be worth looking at hiring some sort of uniform?

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 11:46

Sorry bad link : here

fridayfreedom · 25/08/2012 11:49

am assuming you are living nearish to Goodwood. The charity shops in Chichester yesterday were promoting stuff for the revival. Also have a look at Saber Sales in Southsea for uniforms etc. Totally batty and Bizzare but may have something useful!!!

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 12:08

How about floral dress, pillbox, shoes

The dress needs a petticoat - this cheap ebay job would do but you'll need a slip or tights under it against the scratchiness.

Any good?

BombusBombus · 25/08/2012 12:22

I can probably get accessories together, so it would just be a dress. So any era from 1940s -1970s or do most people wear 1950s?

OP posts:
BombusBombus · 25/08/2012 12:23

Mrs Lettuce, that dress is beautiful.

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 12:33

I don't know but I'd expect mostly 40's and 50's...

this and this?

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 12:34

Were the DC ideas up to anything?

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 12:38

beautiful 40s dress, also in navy, black and blue with just a flower in your hair

50's striped with bolero (needs petticoat), white headscarf worn thus

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 12:46

this (needs petticoat) and this?

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 12:48

sorry, 2x dress and no hat

BombusBombus · 25/08/2012 13:05

I don't want to buy DS a suit he won't wear again so I thought I might put him in school shorts, long socks a shirt and try and get a pull over. DD I will try to get a very traditional dress that she can wear again.

OP posts:
BombusBombus · 25/08/2012 13:06

They are very reasonable those dresses too.

NarkedRaspberry · 25/08/2012 13:20

I'd go this way. If you get something with a peplum it will work for non vintage too!

I particularly like this one.

NarkedRaspberry · 25/08/2012 13:40

This?

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 14:36

Mmm, that could work, you'd really have to vintage up the accessories though. Would need t-bar shoes (there a few few on the highstreet ATM but you'd have to scour for pretty authentic looking ones), a damn good hat and <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.nl/imgres?um=1&hl=nl&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1173&bih=542&tbm=isch&tbnid=QS8okv40j5sZEM:&imgrefurl=glamourdaze.com/2012/02/vintage-1940s-beauty-secrets-hair-and.html&imgurl=1.bp.blogspot.com/-ohq_tweXRa0/Tzp0muT9JRI/AAAAAAAACuQ/Hlk8OS2cT5I/s1600/betty%252Bgrable%252B-%252B1940s%252Bface.jpg&w=450&h=550&ei=gdQ4UOzLIOqn0QXPyYGgDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=506&vpy=100&dur=1356&hovh=248&hovw=203&tx=114&ty=148&sig=117994937117526150460&page=5&tbnh=156&tbnw=118&start=76&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:76,i:328" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">full on vintage hair and makeup. Delightful dress though.

MrsMcEnroe · 25/08/2012 14:37

OP, come to my vintage shop and I will sort you out with a fabulous outfit. I swear that every other customer this week has been buying an outfit for Goodwood Smile

MrsLettuce · 25/08/2012 14:40

these might just cut it
