Shall I tell you what I bought in Long Tall Sally today?

Precisely nothing.
Even with 10% off there was nothing.

I'd earmarked a few things in the catalogue, but when I saw it in RL , I didn't even bother trying it on.

Overpriced and very frumpy.

Also not impressed with LTS. I refuse to pay so much money for synthetic fabrics. I bought some of their jeans once, back in the day when it was all but impossible to get women's jeans in a 34" leg, but they aged me so much I hardly wore them. Also they seem to do that annoying thing where they don't upscale the arse pockets along with the size of the jeans themselves - so for those of us with an ample behind they just highlight the size of your bum. New Look are also guilty of this.

Next is my general go-to place for jeans these days, although they seem to use a lot of lycra and it can cling in the wrong places.

Asda have started doing size 9 shoes too - their £13 wellies saved my bacon at a muddy music festival recently. I've started a thread for bigfoots here to share our footwear woes.

Kernowgal · 27/08/2012 21:04

I used to love Topshop's Tall range but now I can't even squeeze an ankle in their jeans :(

Biggem · 27/08/2012 21:15

Thank god it's not just me that thinks its overpriced frumpy tat

DorothyGherkins · 28/08/2012 14:48

No Workshy, not a range as such, just some of their trousers are marked, now I cant remember, is it extra long, or maybe just long, but if you sort through them, some are long enough to cope with my 35 in legs, and I ve got quite a few pairs from them the last few years, so they are consistently the right length for me.

DorothyGherkins · 28/08/2012 15:34

Workshy - me again! Just been to the loo (am at work) realised I am wearing my smart Asda trousers today, so I had a ferret round for the lable. It just says Long Length, so I think its just a case of seeing which trousers come in the longer length, marked on hanger, and on care lable inside. These ones are just a tiny bit too long, unheard of for me. Think I bought these about a year ago, but I know they still do long length ones instore.

naturalbaby · 28/08/2012 15:41

The only thing I can happily get there are jeans and some trousers, basic tops - but only in the sale!

Cathy78chick · 28/08/2012 18:18

I have to stand up for Lts on this one,I lived in their maternity suit trousers an jeans when I was pregnant and am always stocked up on their basics, coloured and black and white tops...they may not be the same price as other highstreet shops but when I put on their clothes I love the fact the waist is in the correct place and the legs and arms aren't short.I'd like to think their bright blue pleated dress looks just as good on me as it did on the model but I definetly feel it when it's on lol.

They make for tall women and I think they know what they're doing....far more than the likes of the highstreet offering 'tall ranges' :)

marmalade10 · 28/08/2012 18:55

Wow you guys are down on Long Tall Sally! I agree they are hardly Prada in the fashion stakes but they have improved massively in the last 3-4 years and I find the quality is far better than the highstreet so I guess as with anything....you get what you pay for! I shop in store a fair bit and whilst I am sure they are not always perfect 100% of the time I have never had anything but brilliant service! My partner gets a cup of tea and a magazine whilst I get to shop in peace! Horses for courses I guess...we all want something different! Having just fallen pregnant with my first and hence me joining this website I know I'll be heading there for my maternity jeans!! :)

Graciescotland · 28/08/2012 19:05

I do think some of their clothes are frumpy but they are the holy grail of coats which are always bang on for me length/ shape wise.

HoopDePoop · 28/08/2012 19:52

Lol at the unsubtle LTS trolls Grin

BigOleBird · 28/08/2012 19:53

Can I just say, that obviously each and every one of us are entitled to our own opinion....I have been shopping at LTS now for over 20 years. During those years I have practically lived in their jeans, trousers and skirts etc, and if it wasnt for LTS I would not have ever had a decent winter coat. Ok, I may be in my early 40s but I certainly do not class myself as being frumpy, I prefer more classyand original. I agree that LTS are more pricey than your high street stores such as New Look, Dorothy Perkins, and Next, but I budget for my purchases so that I have a good capsule wardrobe, and am often very lucky during the sale events. I am by no means a huge earner, but I appreciate good clothes that fit my 6ft, size 20 frame, and if it were not for Long Tall Sally I would never have stepped outside of my own front door...AndNo` I do not work for them, I am just a very happy and grateful customer.

Cathy78chick · 28/08/2012 20:11

I think it's a bit unfair that if some of us have different opinions we are classed as 'trolls' working for Lts :( ....I'd be proud to work for them if I got a chance and would hold my head high wearing their brand.

They're specialised in what they do,they aren't a typical highstreet brand,if they were they most probably wouldn't bother tailoring clothes to fit out lovely tall frames :) I'm sure everyone has found something they fell in love with and couldn't of got elsewhere :)

marmalade10 · 28/08/2012 20:35

I second that Cathy78chick....I'm not even 100% sure what a troll is!! ;) However everyone is entitled to their view...good, bad or indifferent! I might go off and "troll" Chanel handbags as I like them too!! ;) As far as I am concerned the more choice tall ladies have the better...

peggyblackett · 28/08/2012 20:36

It's not the actual price that bugs me - it's the shit quality for that price and the frumptastic styling. I have bought a lot from LTS over the past 15 years, but this season is truly shit. Not to mention the crap customer service I had from them a couple of months ago.

peggyblackett · 28/08/2012 20:38

In fact, I really wish you were LTS staff, because then there may be a snowballs chance in hell of the clothes improving.

HoopDePoop · 28/08/2012 22:41

Ok then marmalade Cathy and BigOle I believe you not

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 28/08/2012 22:57

And where has Lisa Butcher gone this season!?

Maybe Lisa doesn't like anymore.

The staff are miserable in the London shop as well, except for the nice girl in the shoe department.

bulby · 28/08/2012 22:57

I've only been in the shops a handful of times but each time I've been the youngest by miles (am 37) or in the case of my last visit the most female by miles (disclaimer-I genuinly do not have an issue with transvestites but I am self conscious enough about my height and feeling unfeminine without turning up somewhere in the same outfit as the father of the bride). I agree that the clothes are massively expensive but I suppose anything 'specialist' will be. I bought a pair of their black trousers which faded after one wash and both hems came down after one wear. It's the fact that I don't want to dress like my mum that really galls though. I did try on and order the riding boots they do though as they were by a mile the most flattering thing I've ever put on my feet.

amistillsexy · 28/08/2012 22:57

Would this polyester nightmare be the blue pleated dress you're so pleased with, Cathy?

Seriously???

You actually feel good whilst wearing that? Is it all the electric shocks you get from the static?

I used to buy things from LTS, but the last time was a couple of years ago, when I ordered quite a lot from the catalogue, and sent it all back. White t-shirts that were so thin they were practically see-through, uneven hems and seams, nasty synthetic fabrics for everything. It was like stuff from a market stall! I never recieved any reply to the detailed reasons I gave on the returns note Hmm.

bulby · 28/08/2012 22:58

Must say the staff at the York branch are just lovely though!

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 28/08/2012 23:11

Ah they are northern girls bulby.
That makes the difference.Grin

that dress is hideous..."ultimate swish"...dear god.

Do you remember they did a "young" section..was it called Zone?
That died a death.

Let's face it, there is nowhere that does a decent collection of clothes for tall women, with variety, great fabrics, that's contemporary and desirable.

I buy bits of Top Shop, Zara trousers, Next Tall.....but no one does that elusive comprehensive range.

Chandon · 29/08/2012 08:21

I think lts is frumpy and strictly for the older, fashion defiant crowd. I am nt even fashionable, I like a good classic, but tge items are not even classic, just non-fashion, non-classic sadness.

I have redscovered DP though, and some of their pricier skinnies(still cheaper than LTS) are too long on me, and am 6 ft.

Lts uses too much polyester and acetate etc as well, it is too expensive fr what it is, imo.

CMOTDibbler · 29/08/2012 08:42

Worst thing is that LTS used to do good basics and other stuff that you didn't mind paying money for. I'm still wearing some t shirts from approx 10 years ago (dyed back to black many times) that are v good quality heavy cotton in a flattering fit and fab length.
I want to like them, I really do, and could do with some long sleeved tops that are actually long sleeved, but it makes me depressed just going in there.
Staff in Tunbridge Wells were lovely, Cheltenham not so

BigOleBird · 29/08/2012 20:27

Actually HoopDePoop, Im not bothered if you believe me or not, as I said before, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, if you arnt impressed with the LTS price or quality then dont go in there.....Simple really.

WinkyWinkola · 29/08/2012 20:35

I've shopped there for 20 years. I've become more discerning as more tall clothes become available.

LTS trousers are cut dreadfully.

Dated fabric designs.

Cheap, nasty fabrics.

Over priced.

And why oh why do they keep trying to flog long skirts that make tall women look like an exclamation mark?
