coloured skinny jeans - what to wear with and what colour boots?

i am clueless when it comes to clothes despite spending hours reading S&B when i should be doing something else.

i bought some dark green coloured skinnies the other week, which i really like, and thinking of getting a berry coloured pair too. but i have two problems: i have absolutely no idea what to put with them top wise, or what colour boots / shoes to wear.

i have tried ankle boots with skinny jeans but i just look wrong. i am not sure why, but i do. so i was thinking (though its not fashionable) about getting some longer boots.

i had my colours done - i'm a winter - and this was all supposed to be much easier now. however from what i can see, boots mainly come in black and brown. black looks very formal and a bit odd with jeans; and i shouldnt be wearing brown (apparently). so are there any suggestions? or shall i just take the jeans back ?!

Id wear cream or navy longish tops and tan flat knee high boots (if ankle boots dont suit) The FCUK Renoir top is cream is excellent with coloured skinnies here

MadAboutHotChoc · 23/08/2012 09:50

As a winter you can't wear cream. Grey works really well though.

Have you thought of getting informal black boots - I have a new pair of cowboy style ankle boots that works well with coloured skinnies. Biker style boots also works well.

Or wear brogues? converse?

I think long boots and coloured skinnies are a huge no no but that's me,

My god a simple pair of berry skinnies from river island has transformed my wardrobe. I wear them with a pale grey top shop t shirt, pale denim shirt, navy lace long sleeved top, raspberry vest, white blouse..
Roll up the bottoms and wear with converse or flat tan sandals for another few weeks.

Just bought the dark green skinnies from river island too. Wear with a Breton top maybe? I'm planning to try them out with my Whistles beige and black print silk blouse.

IShallPracticeMyCurtsey · 23/08/2012 11:10

P.S. I'm a winter too!

VerityBrulee · 23/08/2012 13:09

I think if you are wearing skinnies with ankle boots the jeans need to be shorter than if you are wearing them with ballet flats. With flats a bit of "bunching' around the ankle looks fine but not with boots.

With regard to the colours I would go for brown boots rather than black for dark green or berry. Surely the colour of your boots doesn't impact on your season, so much as the colour of your top IYSWIM?

I usually wear mine with black haviana's but am watching this as soon I won't be able to when it gets colder :(

I have a wine / berry coloured pair which I LOVE

MadAboutHotChoc · 23/08/2012 13:37

I tried on tan coloured boots but these jarred quite a bit with the rest of my wardrobe and you would need to add other pieces to help the brown blend in better (eg handbag) - I think winters can get away with very dark brown/taupe boots though.

Sorry have only just got back to this. I do like the idea of a grey top with the jeans. I am going to see what my converse look like with them too. I agree that the coloured boots just don't look quite right somehow. I do have a few brown bags so I might try that to see if they blend better.and a berry pair are going on my birthday list! Not having great day but wanted to say thank you for your time.

I have some tan wedge desert boots that I wear with reddish skinny jeans - more shoe-y than ankle boots and I like them together. From Next so not horribly expensive and I think I've seen some grey ones there this winter? I also agree that a bit of a roll up works better for skinnies with ankle boots but the amount varies depending on the boot!! Not much help sorry but might be worth an experiment. Oh and I think denim shirts can look good with coloured jeans

lissielou · 26/08/2012 18:51

I wear mine with flat slouchy ankle boots and a fine knit top/layers.

SpringGoddess · 26/08/2012 20:16

I wear mine with tan chelsea boots, grey plimsoles, Havianas, heeled ankle boots in mushroom & some in grey, brogues boots in black, wedge sandals too.

shopafrolic · 27/08/2012 09:16

Agree re: grey tops. I had my colours done recently but wouldn't let it drive my colour choices so much that I didn't buy boots of a particular colour (I'm an autumn so recommended to wear more brown).
There are lots of coloured ballet flats around at the moment in similar colours to the jeans. Depending on budget John Lewis do some from £22, or LK Bennett at the pricier end.

Grey Converse also work......

I have been wearing a pair of turquoise skinnys for the last few months. I intend on investing in a berry pair or teal pair for winter as they have been so versatile.
I wear with a grey t-shirt, navy stripe breton, denim shirt, white or navy vest.
Footwear wise, black havaianas, taupe low wedge sandals, tan wedge ash trainers, tan heeled ankle boots. I second the suggestion of flat tan riding boots if you don't like ankle boots.

trixymalixy · 27/08/2012 09:59

I have berry and petrol coloured skinnies. Last winter I wore brown riding boots with them, tan or leapord ballet flats or tan sandals. This winter I have bought tan heeled boots and I am looking for some tan/brown Chelsea boots.

nomoreminibreaks · 27/08/2012 10:34

I think grey boots - I have some and they go with everything whilst being less harsh than black. I'd wear a white loose fitting top and a scarf that suits you (I know nothing about winter colours - blue?).
