I'm rubbish at A/W, help!

SS I'm fine, lots of prom dresses and brightly coloured open tied shoes.
AW, I'm useless.
I see other people looking fabulous in skinnies and funky scarves, but just can't seem to recreate the look at home. I must be missing something :(
What are your top tips for AW dressing?

WHat size are you? What's your style? Colouring? Hard to recommend anything without some basic parameters?
