I've been procrastinating and now i realise I've less than a fortnight to find something for my younger brother's wedding. I'm 40, i have children, I'm doing a reading. I want to look smart, gorgeous etc but not too mumsy. I'm realistically a size 14 (big hips and bottom) but usually a smaller top so some 12's work. Jersey doesn't work for me it clings too much on my sticky out hip bones, big thighs and tum.

I tried this on in blue but thought it was a bit too airline stewardess, what about this ?

What's your budget Sams? Are there accessories that you already have and are keen to use? (links?)

TBH neither of the dresses you've linked to look like they'd particularly flatter your shape. this would skim nicely. this too, this looks like it'd be very flattering indeed. This sort of style?

Debenhams do a free personal shopper service. I used it in a similar situation and it was great.

I like the bird dress, but is it wedding enough.
not so keen on the swing dress - they always seem to end in the wrong place on my legs.
Not so keen on the blue jasper conran dress

The spotty one looks a bit too informal

Have you tried a fifties style dress from Monsoon? New to this, so not sure about linking to particular outfits, but I find them super flattering.

MrsLettuce · 21/08/2012 11:35

I can do better than the bird print, just no idea of budget. Am confused because you started off by linking to 20 quid dresses and I don't want to shove stuff in front of you that'd be way out of your price range...

It is wearable though, definitely. Would need a hat - this? - bright shoes (red is always good) and a cream bag.

this dress?
this?
this? (better price)

Ooh, just come across this. Very nice.

Sams9Goldmedals · 21/08/2012 21:34

Mrs Lettuce you're a star. Realistically i'd like to spend under £50 so the cherry blossom dress is gorgeous but way out of my league sadly as is the mint velvet dress although i did see this this there that looked ok

Oh my goodness! That's beautiful!

What sort of budget are you on for accessories?

AlphabetiSpaghetti · 21/08/2012 21:43

I really like that and will be purchasing one myself! It's beautiful. You'll look stunning. Hurrah! :)

What about this one debenhams again. Hat and shoes in cintradting colour would look fab

MrsLettuce · 21/08/2012 21:55
Grin

these would work well.

I'd be so tempted to put this and this with it, even with my utter aversion to matchy. But maybe too quirky.

Sams9Goldmedals · 21/08/2012 22:17

have some very similar shoes so will use those but that bag will look super cute. Thank you v. much
