talk to me about nails

I don't like getting my nails done and do a very good job of them myself but i'm struggling with good quality, affordable nail varnishes that don't chip or make my nails peel.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Thank you

I swear by OPI and sesche vite top coat. I buy them both on ebay for a fiver (incl p&p) from the US after I chosen the colour at my local chemist where OPI retails for £18. I dont use anything else as the colour chips and is false economy. I hear that Revlon is very good too but haven't tried them myself.

Based on a MN recommendation, I recently bought the Sally Hansen Diamond Strength clear shiny varnish. On its own or as a top coat, it's absolutely superb. Highly recommended.

For colours, I love Dior and Chanel. I don't have many because they're pricey but I prefer them to any others I have!!

For me the Dior polishes are unbeatable. Opi also fab. I take sainsburys hair skin and nails and have noticed a huge improvement in my nails since.

I love the chanel ones for colours but don't find them the easiest to apply and they chip quite quickly (delight is my current favourite, but I put it on for going out on Friday and have had to take it too this evening. Was looking really chipped and tatty!)

For durability I use the Zoya ones. Colours are not so wowwy but they don't seem to chip at all. I second the Sally Hansen topcoat - it is fab.

I love Sally hansen, Revlon and Rimmel. Especially the Rimmel pro ones. i usually end up removing the varnish because I am sick of the colour - not because its chipped.

All three of these brands are available everywhere but poundland has osme in at the moment in great colours too.

A good base or nail hardener, Sally Hansen are good.
Opi, china glaze, Nina ultra pro and rimmel are the best polishes imo, you can buy online or from Sally hair and beauty.
Seche vite topcoat is amazing, china glaze fast forward is quite good as is Sally Hansen inst dri topcoat.
Make sure you have a good glass file and buffer. Use hand cream or oil on your cuticles and nails everyday.

I have recently converted to Essie. Brilliant chip wise and a lovely range of colours.

You can get it in Boots now for £7.99

Dropdeadfred · 20/08/2012 10:35

I love nails inc colours - just use sally Hanson over the top

Barry M lasts for ages and is cheap. I find it lasts better than some of the more expensive brands.

Thank you all. I will give all those a look!
