cracked heels

getthecakeready · 19/08/2012 19:30

what helps cracked heels?

I know I should put cream on, do a weekly scrub, and not a pedicure which "cuts" off the hard skin. Is this correct?

Do you know of any good creams to use?

Thanks!

A good scraper and Flexitol cream.

The Mumsnet footfile (Soap & Glory one) and flexitol did it for me too.

newlark · 19/08/2012 19:45

Another vote for flexitol (Boots do an equivalent one which is also good)

Cremolavelodrome · 19/08/2012 19:46

See a podiatrist first. He will fix up your feet properly- cut nails and remove hard skin.
After that apply flexitol liberally dailySmile

LetsKateWin · 19/08/2012 19:48

Vaseline worked for me. My feet were so bad that they had started to bleed.

TheDreadedFoosa · 19/08/2012 19:50

Could never get hold of the soap and glory file, not sur if disconyinued?

The pedipro looks like a gimmick but is AMAZING! Ten minutes, with zero effort and my feet were softer and smoother than i can ever remember them. Way better than a £40 trip to the chiropidist.

Why are pedicures not recommended, btw?

TheDreadedFoosa · 19/08/2012 19:51

Oh and flexitol afterwards.

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/08/2012 20:14

Burts Bees do a nice foot cream - similar to flexitol in consistency but the smell won't make you retch

getthecakeready · 20/08/2012 11:37

thanks for the info guys!

@ TheDreadedFoosa - i heard this a while ago and I think they said that cutting off the hard skin will just speed up its regrowth... probably a total misinformation?

I don't see how cutting off dead skin could make skin grow faster. Who are 'they' that told you that?!

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/08/2012 12:33

Am sure that when you have a hardcore pedicure they cut off the old skin - surely its just like cutting off the dry ends of your hair?

monkeysmama · 20/08/2012 13:07

I go to a cheap Vietnamese place when I want baby soft feet. They use a blade to cut the hard skin off. When I go for posher pedis they exfoliate which never does much for me.

jammiecat · 20/08/2012 13:31

@TheDreadedFoosa My understanding is that the problem with pedicures is the products used can dry the skin hence exacerbating the problem and so not good for anyone with cracked skin. Although I don't know if this is correct, it seemed to make sense to me.

TheDreadedFoosa · 20/08/2012 13:39

Ah, ok...interesting.

polyhymnia · 20/08/2012 16:57

Proper chiropodist ( not beautician) if skin bad then Flexitol every day and any good foot file.

"I HAVE A VERY CRACKED SKIN THAT GREW DUE TO MOVING ON SOIL FOR MANY DAYS.
CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME WITH SOME TIPS, SHOULD I COMPLETELY CUT ON WALKING BARE FOOT??"

dexter73 · 22/08/2012 10:37

I would walk on your hands instead Ryan.

Sainsbos dirty works file is the same as the soap and glory one and half the price.

ZuleikaJambiere · 22/08/2012 20:34

Go to the beach - after 3 days walking barefoot on the sand on holiday, my feet were baby smooth. Shame I had to come back to real life

SunWukong · 22/08/2012 21:25

So what would happen if you got a plastic under bed storage box full of play sand and stamped your feet in it daily? just a thought.

ZuleikaJambiere · 22/08/2012 21:41

I have to confess that I did potter in the sand pit with DD, but it just wasn't the same!

SunWukong · 22/08/2012 22:42

Shame

exterminateexterminate · 23/08/2012 14:14

If no cracks in skin I go for the soaking in lemon juice for 10 mins before foot filing. It really ups the amount that you can slough off. Sand only works if it's on a beautiful beach with the sun shining up above and a lovely big glass of wine to hand in my experience.
