Can anyone of you nice S&B people recommend a facial sunblock of spf 50 please?

I need full protection - have just finished a bottle of Ultrasun which is good, but wondering what else is out there.
Need something that doesn't leave a white sheen and is light enough to use under foundation. And over a moisturiser.

(Sounds odd but I have a feeling the ultrasun has been affecting the colour of my foundation - could that be possible)?

I like the Elizabeth arden 8 hour cream one. I've used the La Roche Posay one after good advice on here but I hate it. Leaves a white greasy sheen and peels into little white balls when you try to put foundation on.

NigellasGuest · 15/08/2012 16:24

is the 8 hr cream one anything like the actual 8 hr cream? that is really cloggy...

I've used clinique city block in the past. I had the highest spf one, but can't remember if it was 40 or 50 spf. It worked nicely under my foundation, and wasn't overly greasy / pore blocking.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/08/2012 18:10

Do not get the new no7 one with age spot lightener, it's shite unless your skin is REALLY dry.

I'm taking mine back.

Whitershadeofpale · 15/08/2012 18:24

No it's like the 8 hour cream moisturiser but not like the yellow vasaline one. It's just like a rich moisturiser really and smells quite citrusy.

ebaymad · 15/08/2012 18:30

I use the Mac prep & prime, it's factor 50 and a primer too.

I use it over moisturiser and under foundation. Brilliant stuff but not cheap.

ebaymad · 15/08/2012 18:31

The Elizabeth Arden 8 hour one made my skin really dry

cybbo · 15/08/2012 18:47

La Roche Posay (available in Boots) is a good one for sun sensitive skin

Also agree mac prime and prep is good, but isn't moisturising and I don't like to layer too much stuff on my skin in hot weather #blockedpores

cybbo · 15/08/2012 18:48

Oops see someone didn't like Roche Posay...Mebbe didn't agree with your foundation

EldonAve · 15/08/2012 19:06

I have a Neurogena one but not sure you can buy in the UK

alemci · 15/08/2012 19:18

i used the clinique sun screen which was factor 40 whilst in USA and it was very good.

NigellasGuest · 15/08/2012 19:31

I'm tempted by the Clinique city block one - I had a quick google and there are 2 factor 40 ones, not sure what the difference is but one is much more pricey!
Also the Mac primer. That would be good because I do want to keep using my moisturisers, I don't really want a new moisturiser that happens to have sunscreen IYSWIM. Because then I would be stuck with always using that moisturiser unless I want to go without sunblock... and I do like to chop and change a bit!

I am just back from six weeks in Spain and I bought the La Roche Posey tinted moisturiser with spf 50 in it. It worked a treat and was lovely to wear. I dont really like the ordinary one with spf 50 but this one is brilliant!

lurkingaround · 15/08/2012 20:09

I use La Roche Posay tinted fluid too, when not wearing make-up. Untainted one is way to white and ghostly.

If I'm wearing make-up I use this one, I love it. My dermatologist uses it, and she looks fantastic, therefore I will look fantastic Grin

My friend uses Chanel UV Essential 50, (can't link cos I can't get the page for some reason), apparently it is a very good one, and my friend is OBSESSIVE about these things. She also endures the joys of oily skin.

Virgil · 15/08/2012 20:11

I use Clinique cityblock. It's great under make up or else it has a tint and so is also good on its own.

lucidlady · 15/08/2012 20:16

Mac prep and prime here too - it is ace.

Medal · 15/08/2012 20:28

I use Boots own Soltan facial SPF50 suncream, they do one for sensitive skin as well. Have been using it for years either on its own or with makeup on top and love it.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 15/08/2012 20:32

I use the La Roche Posay tinted one and really like it Smile

willybreeder · 15/08/2012 20:47

Another vote for Boots Soltan face cream. I use the Once version in SPF 30 but they do a 50 too

Love City Block, have in the SPF 25 and is good. Definitely going to give mac prep and prime a go now.

A word of caution about city block - I think because it has natural sunblock rather than chemical (or at least the 25 does, not sure about the 40), it really shows up in photos and can look a little odd.

NigellasGuest · 15/08/2012 22:06

Well I've ordered the MAC prep and prime. But lots of other great ideas here - I could end up bankcrupting myself Wink

Ah, too late, but I use the shisheido urban environment spf 42. It's lovely and doesn't naked my face feel weird or spotty. So, if your current one doesn't work out, or you fancy something else next time, I would recommend :)

SrirachaGirl · 16/08/2012 02:23

La Roche Posay Anthelios spray is wonderful. I hate the creamy one...too greasy.

NigellasGuest · 16/08/2012 12:45

never too late, owl Grin
