Sizing in Superdry

I'm shopping for DH's birthday and have seen a couple of t-shirts and shirts that I might get for him one of which is from Superdry, but in the photographs the shirts look really slim fitting, so do I need to size up? Size-wise, he would normally take a large, but he has very broad shoulders, so can struggle to get shirts and jackets to fit.

Many thanks!

My husband is usually a large, sometimes at a push an XL.

He wears a snug XXL in Superdry!!! He too was horrified at this but just laughed - he is not big. He's 6ft 1 and also has broad shoulders (yum - lucky us). He wears a size 34 jeans - don't know if this helps you to compare for husband.

I am a size 10 on top and wear a ladies large in superdry! (wimper)

They are known for being very snug.

I think they come up small.

My dh can wear a medium normally but had to take some stuff back because it was tiny. He was a large in there.

Thanks Bubalou! DH is also a 34" waist, so will probably need the same size shirt as your DH!! That is madness that the sizes are so much smaller than anywhere else! I think I will play it safe and order a couple of sizes to compare to his other shirts!!

Sorry, x-post BonkeyMolloks! I will definitely order the bigger sizes, then!

My son, who is a medium in "normal" shops, is an XL in Superdry. My 12 year old wears a Superdry medium!

They are teeny! But with it being a Japanese company I guess the clothes are designed for Japanese proportions.

bruffin · 15/08/2012 14:26

Superdry is not a japanese company, It's a british company from Cheltenham.

Thanks for the replies! I gave up in the end trying to decide what size to order online and will just go and have a look in the actual shop when I am next in town! The sizing sounds ridiculous if a 12 year old is in a medium and my Dad takes that size in 'normal' shops such as M&S and Next!!

bruffin you live and learn! I don't know why I've always thought they were Japanese?!

bruffin · 16/08/2012 18:41

Because you are meant to think they Japanese, its a marketing thing.
Just asked Dd 14 and she thought Japan as well.

In that case they're doing a good job because I would have bet good money on it.

I am a size 8/6 in most shops and am a small in superdry, which I thought is about right. Saying that a lot of the stuff I get from there is elasticated such a shorts etc. I recently boughta coat in a small and it has plenty of room in it. I think going by the other replies I just got lucky.
