Good style blogs that aren't all about plugging some product/company

I like style blogs but I really do find it frustrating when posts are clearly plugging a particular company. There are some bloggers who make it clear that items have been gifted or they've been asked to review a product and they do give an honest opinion - that's fine. However there are those who read like a press release and it just makes me feel like I'm being taken for a fool.

I like Doesmybumlook40 which is often mentioned on here, but any others?

I really like your blog suburban and I am considering the topshop boots you are wearing in the most recent post.

I also like Worn Out especially as there are a number of people doing it with different styles, sizes etc. Also like Does my bum look 40 - she is a completely different shape to me but I get good ideas for accessories and shoes from her and I love the writing style.

Amber I am not surprised you have most of the things I linked! I always like the things you link to - alas I cannot wear skinny jeans, straight legs for me all the way.

Notyounaanbread I too covet the pistols but I suspect by the time I have saved up for them they will be very last year! or very 3 years ago as far as Marsha is concerned Grin

ha I know. It's easy to forget as she doesn't do a maternity blog really. Just atm.

darknessvisible · 15/08/2012 14:58

issimma - DO start a maternity style blog! I'm frantically pinning A/W maternity looks at the moment!

One of the WornOut bloggers was pregnant so I've been searching her past posts for maternity style inspiration - she looks great and lots of High Street stuff too. I like WIT but don't think her maternity style has been the greatest...

issimma I tried various but the best I've found are these cheapies. I do like over-the-bump though. H&M have some nice-looking slim-fit trousers in a variety of colours; they're so very cheap that I don't have high hopes for them, but may order to try anyway...

OBface · 15/08/2012 18:56

Issimma try net-a-porter for decent maternity jeans. They stock the usual suspects (j brand and citizens of humanity) - I invested in a pair and wore them to death over my pregnancy and the following few weeks

NualaBennett · 15/08/2012 19:03

NotYouNaanBread I don't think there is anything frumpy about the Suburban blog, and for me she is exactly what I aspire to.

I am certainly not aspiring to the Hanneli type look, they look great, but the don't look like everyday people. I can't go to a soft play centre dressed like that and I don't even want to either.

But I can see we are coming from very diffrent angles, especially if you think the best option if you can't afford Reiss is ebay where you can't even try things on to see if they fit!

OBface · 15/08/2012 19:47

Also Blossom for jeans and other lovely maternity wear.

Back on topic, I like Atlantic Style and Wendy for inspiration, and DMBL40, Suburban Style and WIT for every day. Style Guile and School Gate seem far to 'old' for me, think would appeal to my mother though Grin.

OBface · 15/08/2012 19:49

And Pinterest for a vast array of style awesomeness!

NotYouNaanBread · 15/08/2012 19:55

NualaBennett I think maybe I just read blogs for a different reason, although to be honest, I don't really read them as much as I used to. Suburban Style is actually really nice and not at all unlike how I like to dress - it was one of the others that I clicked on and was a bit Confused - I apologise to suburban for coming off a bit mean in my post above without having actually clicked on her blog.

I wasn't being a smartarse about Ebay though - I dress on a v. limited budget and Ebay is where I get a LOT of stuff - if you know what size you are in a brand and it's a fairly consistently sized brand (not like Whistles!), then you can usually buy quite cheerfully. I know what size I am in Topshop's Kirsten jeans for instance, so I can buy them in other colours on ebay without worrying. For me, Ebay often is the best option.

Love pinterest and great for style inspiration. Sometimes the style is quite American though and unfortunately quite a few seem to think that being stylish = slutty. A lot also seem to think that leggings worn as a bottom half on their own is an acceptable look. Have to sift through quite a lot of pins to find stuff I like.

I like polyvore for different outfit combos and you can search by celeb too to see inspired outfits.

For vintage lovers, Calivintage is a lovely blog. Not really my style but she does a lot on cycling which is a good read.

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 19:58

I like Suburban Style when I look at it. Which is usually when linked on here.

WipsGlitter · 15/08/2012 19:58

I love Does My Bum 40, she's way skinnier than me but I love her look, but she must lend a fortune!!!! I like Suburban, but actually prefer the non-clothes bits (food, beauty). There's one called fashion mommy that links to loads of high street stuff but isn't really what she is wearing.

AmberNectarine · 15/08/2012 20:04

Yes, I rate eBay, in the last couple of weeks I have had a leopard print LKB dress for work, a Marc Jacobs iPad case and an Acne vest for fractions of the original cost. I sell shedloads of stuff on there too, last week I sold J Brand, Current/Elliott and Marant to name a few. A lot of sellers will accept returns and if it doesn't fit, sell it on.

I wouldn't be so crass as to say I work on a limited budget but I am careful how I spend my money. I hate to feel ripped off, so I try never to buy full price, always in sales and with discounts. I have a wardrobe full of premium denim and never spend more than £50 per pair. Even my pistols came from a clearance sale for £36. You can be stylish on a budget.

CointreauVersial · 15/08/2012 22:06

Nuala - for a younger/studenty/thrifty look (if you don't want to dress like an over-40 Wink), try A Little Bird Told Me. Or VIPXO.

justasecond · 16/08/2012 00:38

Blimey Amber Envy for getting a pair of pistols for £36!

berri · 16/08/2012 16:45

I've mentioned this one on here before - it's just so practical and easy to follow, makes me feel like I'm actually keeping up with things!
