Good style blogs that aren't all about plugging some product/company

I like style blogs but I really do find it frustrating when posts are clearly plugging a particular company. There are some bloggers who make it clear that items have been gifted or they've been asked to review a product and they do give an honest opinion - that's fine. However there are those who read like a press release and it just makes me feel like I'm being taken for a fool.

I like Doesmybumlook40 which is often mentioned on here, but any others?

I am hooked on Atlantic Style, she really has a flair doesnt she? I have thought about starting a style blog a few times, I have a blog already for house/ craft stuff but think a seperate one would be needed for clothes.
What I would really love is for the mumsnet s&b posters to be able to share a nice outfit. Some people on here describe gorgeous outfits on threads, wouldn't it be great I'd we could see them?

QueenMaeve · 13/08/2012 13:08

'Separate' even Blush

Decameron · 13/08/2012 13:32

I'm also curious about the W&A uniform, Fritzi!

KandyBarr · 13/08/2012 13:33

I like Wendy because - depsite being sick-makingly pretty - she's generous in that she takes time to explain in detail the tips and tricks, rather than simply plugging. Kendy, too, is honest about when she's plugging, and though I'm not keen on her style, again, she writes in a spirit of generosity and encouragement.

But well done style blogs are few and far between. There are far too many bland, bored thin women photographing their ballet flats, imo.

Toasted tea cake thanks for all of those they're perfect.

Oh no! Really didn't mean to offend you A & W ladies! Really do love your threads and really do pick up some great ideas as a result.

AmberNectarine · 13/08/2012 16:10

decam and fritzi I imagine premium denim features heavily...

AmberNectarine · 13/08/2012 16:15

And Lounger I don't think you've offended any of us, I think we do dress in a broadly similar way, but we all have enough individuality that when we are all in a room together the outfits are pretty diverse. Thanks for the compliment Smile

FritziGreenEyes · 13/08/2012 16:19

lounger Should have added a Wink to my question.

Decameron · 13/08/2012 17:04

Not offended at all, Lounger! You should join us.

The A&W uniform

Jeans, with this bag, these boots, maybe this shirt and possibly this jacket

Am I right??? Grin

Goes back to lurking and stealing ideas on A&W

AmberNectarine · 15/08/2012 07:28

libertychick I have all those items except the shirt, which is not to my taste, so you've got me bang to rights....

NualaBennett · 15/08/2012 08:39

I like TheSuburbanStyle but wish I could find another I like.

I think Schoolgate and StyleGuile are a bit too old for me, the mums at I know in their late 30s to mid 40s fit that style well.

I want late 20s, mum of two toddlers, practical but still in style. SuburbanStyle is great for that and her clothes tend to be affordable on a limited just-had-two-babies-and-bought-a-house type budget!
I just would love to find a similar one to get ideas from.

NotYouNaanBread · 15/08/2012 08:49

Just looking through the blogs in the first couple of posts - they're not actually remotely stylish women though, are they? They're clean, and they are happy with what they are wearing, but if you are coming out of a Mummy haze of leggings and muslins, they're not exactly what you should be aspiring to.

I'm not saying you have to wear every outfit we see on Garance Dore's blog - www.garancedore.fr/en/ - or Hanneli Mustaparta - www.hanneli.com/ but if you want a blog to give you inspiration, the blogger should be encouraging you to raise your game, not reassuring you that dowdy is good enough.

And it's not about £ - a bit of tailoring, a nice pair of jeans and a couple of fab t-shirts IS enough. Blazer = Zara/Reiss, jeans = Levis/Topshop etc, t-shirt = GAP (I like those plain ones with the seam down the back). And if Reiss/Zara/Topshop is too spendy, Ebay.

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 08:54

Yes those two Hanelli and Garance are great.

I also live surrounded by women who wear Marant etc on school run so they need to be at least as inspirational as that.

Libertychick very good! Although I have none of those. Celine and Lanvin instead (pistols two years ago).

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 08:55

Hanneli.

NotYouNaanBread · 15/08/2012 09:52

Libertychick Love that shirt, covet the boots. My Topshop biker jacket was my best buy this winter.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 15/08/2012 10:01

NotYouNaanBread but I think the point is they look well presented. Sometimes you look at a magazine, none of the stuff is actually comfortable and practical. I just want inspiration for every day clothing that I can go for long walks, with muddy feet, and not feel cold or have sore feet.

faustina · 15/08/2012 10:16

oh yes - the shoes especially. Most things look better if you wear heels, (Wendy is always doing that) but it's not practical for so much of the time!

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/08/2012 11:01

This one is a friend of mine myra Unfortunately she has just moved back to the US, so maybe she will continue from there.

AmberNectarine · 15/08/2012 12:31

I follow a mix of blogs, from Style Bubble etc for high end, mad, aspirational stuff, to Suburban Style and Worn Out, which take these ideas and make them into something real.

I like Suburban Style because it is quite a pared back, quite Acne inspired, and that is very me.

Sometimes it's nice to have a flight of fancy and sometimes it's nice to see something I could actually wear.

suburban · 15/08/2012 13:23

I write Suburban Style. Blush

It's meant to be quite tongue and cheek, I certainly don't consider myself to be any kind of style guru. It is more affordable outfits you can wear with toddlers in tow to boring suburban things like soft play.

In terms of more high end inspiration I like

Karla's Closet
Cupcakes and Cashmere
Mademoiselle Robot

As far as other "mummy" blogs go, my favourites are Worn Out and Susie So So who is hilarious and becoming a good friend of mine.

I also really rate Chocolate Cookies and Candies.

I don't think any one blog will ever tick all the boxes it's more about browsing several some aspirational and some affordable. Pinterest is also an amazing resource for this kind of thing.
