Mummy tummy - does it ever go?

I've been a size 8 my whole life and didn't put on any weight while pregnant (except for obvious additional human being in belly). My figure went back to normal pretty quick except I still have a Mummy Tummy that I can't seem to get rid of. My stomach muscles are firm again, there's no excess fat, it's just a lingering bunch of saggy skin that doesn't want to budge. WIll this go eventually or is this permanent? Anything I can do to tighten it up? I've never heard of a skin-toning exercise Confused

Mine went but it took a while. I think it does depend on genetics though. What's your mothers tummy like ?

zenam · 12/08/2012 13:05

It should go back to normal, it took me about 1 yr to get my figure back and to be honest i never had a washboard stomach anyway! I had a c-section and can honestly say my figure is better now than pre baby, but I do work out a bit and watch my diet. (and only have one dd) Moisturiser might help.

How old is yr. L.O.? If under 6 months give yrself a chance we're not air brushed celebs in R.L.

He's just six months so maybe I need to be a bit more patient! Thanks all.

The 30 day shred is good for it

Once the skin has been streched, it never (rarely) goes back to how it was before. As it has been stretched!

That's the reality, and the same for most of us.

ppeatfruit · 13/08/2012 15:15

Well mine went back to slimmer after 3 babes and no stretch marks (maybe I'm lucky Grin)

I've always been size 8-10 and lost my baby weight quickly, but DS is almost 2 and I still have a saggy tummy :( I haven't done any work to tone up the muscles though.

A Very good Easy Belly busting exercise-;

A.Lie flat on a firm surface (it can be a firm mattress).

B. Arms by yr sides or over yr head (this makes it more effective) maybe bring them in when you want to increase the difficulty.

C. slowly raise yr head and shoulders 5cm to the count of 5, hold for 5 and bring down slowly IMPORTANT; YOU MUST KEEP YR HEAD IN LINE WITH YR SPINE NOT POKING FORWARD OR HANGING BEHIND.

D. Repeat 3 or 4 times every night and morning.

It works!!! Smile Grin

My saggy tummy is due to excess skin, which got slightly better with time but in reality it will always look saggy and losing weight has made it look worse.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2012 12:24

C'mon spring and marzipan that (see above) exercise bloody works try it!!!

SpringGoddess · 14/08/2012 14:33

My tummy muscles are well exercised and firm, it's the skin that's the problem - my excess skin cannot be firmed by exercise, no matter how hard I work.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2012 14:46

Time and patience will be answer then!

I can recommend this cd for the hardest series of stomach exercises ever! Only takes 20 mins out of your day, once you've worked your way up to the intermediate level class. Very very good for working the muscles that actually hold your stomach in and make everything flatter, without giving you a six pack.

PutIcecubesDownTheVestOfFear · 14/08/2012 16:01

X post OP, but it's a good CD anyway Grin

PutIcecubesDownTheVestOfFear · 14/08/2012 16:01

Sorry, I mean x post Spring Blush

ppeatfruit - sorry, time and patience does not always help with saggy skin. It is 7 years since my youngest was born. I put on very little weight when I was pregnant (back in my jeans within 10 days) but I am fairly petite and he was almost 11lbs!! My skin was stretched almost translucent and I think it's very unlikely the excess skin will ever go through exercise. Sad

Blimey mrsMinivers !!

Yoga does help if you do it daily for at least 15 minutes, it takes about 3-4 weeks to notice but it helped me. Barbra currie is a gentle one.
