Floor length tshirt material black skirt and a bit of a tum. What top?

I've got a gorgeous plain black skirt that I bought a few months back and haven't been able to find the right top to wear with.

My problem area since having DC is my tummy so I usually wear M&S control vest (too hot!) to make me look a bit more streamlined or loose tunic type tops to hide it, but these just look wrong with my skirt, a bit frumpy? They look best (IMO) with a plain vest top, but as the skirt doesn't have any support it doesn't really do me any favours with a tight top over!

Any ideas what else I could wear with it, especially in hot weather? Thanks.

what about wearing a vest and then putting a light chiffon shirt over the top and tie it in a bow at the front.

Oh that's a good idea, thank you! I did think of a chiffon tunic as I saw a nice one in New Look, but thought it would defeat the object as you'd be able to see through it! Tying it in a bow is a great idea though as it would do something to hide my tum I suppose....

yes that's exactly the plan - also if you wear a longish necklace with it that would draw a person's eye upwards away from your tummy Grin

You could also try it with a plain vest top (not too tight fitting) and a lightweight denim shirt worn open over it.

Chiffon tie front shirt and long necklace sounds like a plan, I shall go forth and seek them out!

Remus, thanks, I like the sound of a denim shirt actually :) I have tried it with a cardi but it was way too hot.

I have a similar problem with long skirts but wear a long tight vest with a shorter, slightly looser ribbed vest over it. Looks nice over a long skirt, usually wear a long necklace too.

I did that look here and it works well. The chambray shirt was H&M and a fab buy. V cool in the heat. styleguile.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/on-run-wearing-french-connection-maxi.html

Would something like this work? It has a skimming boxy shape but not too billowy and shapeless to make you look frumpy?

I'm sure you'll remember to check your rear view as well? T-shirt skirts are very unforgiving of the less-than-perfect bum, and are sometimes a bit see-through as well. I work on a university campus and see an awful lot of style crimes related to the careless use of garments made of cotton jersey.
