AntPants1 · 14/08/2012 22:21

ollie thanks for necklace link. Will seek out. As for thermometer the GPs ar my GP practice always use an ear one for my DC so if it's good enough for them...

everything love the mouse story!

Have missed GBBO due to being in a bad mood and stomping round the house. Will watch on catch up tomorrow. A treat to look forward to.

MidnightinMoscow · 14/08/2012 22:22

We watched that too marsha. Pretty gripping.

Russianred · 14/08/2012 22:29

Evening all.

Hopefully congratulations on your training completion - so exciting for you.

Blue fear not - I had much the same problem with DS, although earlier. Apparently boys struggle with the different sensations and can get quite scared by it (for girls it is a similar sensation apparently and thus easier). Mr Poo solved it for us - as seen on here in desperation after months of sluicing out pants and clearing up nap-time protests. You'll crack it.

MrsCB what a day. Hope DD and you are much recovered. Eeek indeed about the mice.

Sorry to hear about FIL Suburban. My dressing table is a 1950s floral G-Plan number which I adore and bought at an auction house. They come up on Ebay a bit and are amazing (although will accept that many consider them monstrous).

Have been backwards and forwards to London, which has been a mixed bag. Am stupidly excited about the weekend as our garden is finally being 'done' - be gone gypsy camp and a big hello to my lovely Acer, decking, lawn and hours to be spent selecting plants. We're starting from scratch - any reccs?

AmberNectarine · 14/08/2012 22:54

Bargain MJ lace tee here

rufus101 · 15/08/2012 00:33

Really enjoyed GBBO. I can see the tensions emerging already and think the girl who acts really nervous all the time, wringing her hands is going to particularly annoy me. Think you should definitely be on it Ollie. Would you consider it?
Also watched The Accused Marsha, I love anything Jimmy McGovern writes. DH moaned about having to watch something which would surely be miserable, but I overruled him.
Decam Grin Waitrose organic peanut butter! Though as long as it does the job! I saw a mouse run across the kitchen floor a few months ago. I screamed like the proverbial girl, and practically "gathered my skirts" and stood on the chair. Couldn't believe how distasteful I found it. Never have a problem with dead ones. Will try SE's trick next time Wink
Glad DD has gotten through her trauma MCB. Terrible waiting around like that. You feel so helpless.
Emo, your text made me laugh. I ALWAYS have a row with DH, right before we go on hols. And usually via text, as he inevitably has some work which has to be cleared before he goes.
Suburban sorry to hear about FIL, but you'll have the dressing table longer than the holiday. I sometimes wonder why I bother with holidays. The effects are so short lived. I only go for the weather really. Otherwise would be perfectly happy to stay at home.
In style news, I bought.....drum roll.....a wetsuit this weekend! Don't laugh. Although I gave everyone a great laugh as I emerged from the shop dressed in wetsuit, with my high heeled wedge sandals and handbag to complete the look! In my defence (stop sniggering) I was going straight over the road to boogie board and of course left the sandals and bag in the car! I went boogie boarding every day over the 4 days we were away. Really love it. Also I'm planning on a dinghy course in September so will need the wetsuit for that. Got great weather Suburban, which you can't say too often about the south west!

rufus101 · 15/08/2012 00:36

Oh yes Red, plant in groups of 3 or 5 or 7. Apparently it looks better.

Decameron · 15/08/2012 08:02

DH says there are no such things as holidays any more, it's just childminding in a hot country.

Hope your DS is ok, Ollie.

The dinghy course will be great fun, Rufus.

Hope your cats had two presents for you this morning, MrsCB. A rat ran over my (bare) foot when I was a child playing in the garden, I was hysterical.

My friend in the US said my dress and sweater arrived, roll on winter! Grin

The other thread about blogs has got me worrying about lurkers and someone who posted a link to a blog a while ago then got a huge number of hits warned me about revealing personal information. It is putting me off posting.

AmberNectarine · 15/08/2012 08:08

We call holidays 'coping somewhere unfamiliar' in this house.

I think we have to just remember that we are posting on an open forum, and we shouldn't reveal anything we would be uncomfortable with anyone knowing.

Is that your DVF, decam?

Hopefully · 15/08/2012 08:09

Decam what is it that alarms you? Do you worry someone could piece together information to out you, or worse? I know I post enough info to totally out myself, but I never post anything I wouldn't mind being 'overheard' iykwim.

Off to ikea this morning with the boys to eat meatballs scope out storage solutions. Bets on how much time we will spend in the children's area? Grin Assuming they will sell cardboard boxes to move house too?

Decameron · 15/08/2012 08:14

It was the comment about the thread being like eavesdropping on someone else's lives, I know it is an open forum but it just feels odd.

Yes, Amber, DvF. :)

MrsCampbellBlack · 15/08/2012 08:26

Dec - there are a lot and I mean a lot of lurkers on here.

One mouse down - found it in linen basket in utility so eldest child took linen basket outside and caught mouse and released into field - he charged me £10!

FritziGreenEyes · 15/08/2012 08:32

deca That exact comment made me Confused and Hmm too. Of course it's an open forum and all that but it feels very awkward to share details of our lives for the entertainment of other but please don't leave. It wouldn't be the same without you!

ollie Hope DS1 is ok this morning. Ear thermometer here too. Had to suffer the other method and painkiller suppositories as a child and would never traumatize DD that way

red What is the size/ basic layout of your garden? Sun or shade? Any trees already there? What is the soil like? Any plants/colours you like/dislike? Do you want to have a sandpit/tree house/slide for the DCs? Have a browse through Pinterest to collect some ideas what you would like your garden to look like. And rufus is right: plants look better in groups of 3,5, etc

mrscb So glad to hear that everything went well yesterday and that hospital staff were so good with DD. Hope you both reward yourselves with a relaxing day of shopping, cuddling and nice food.

We have mice living in our stone wall which is only 2 metres from our big sliding doors to the kitchen. So far we have never had a mouse inside . I like every's method of rodent control the best. Think it could be a business idea Smile

dona I can imagine how exciting but at the same time your return to working in an office must be. Please keep us posted with your fabulous outfits!

Is gos on holiday?

MidnightinMoscow · 15/08/2012 08:33

I know what you mean Decam. It's tricky as I feel that I have so many good friends here that I am happy to share stuff with, and yet it's so easy to forget it's all part of the public domain.

How many is a lot MrsCB? Smile. Good mouse work this am from DS.

How is DS this morning Ollie?

Sounds like you had a great time Rufus.

How is your Dsis getting on with four Ants?

Red how exciting. I find that our garden centre are great for information re plants. Obviously you'll be ruled by soil type and sun position for your garden. I have a few bamboo's - and I love them. However, I only keep them in large planters as they grow far to big in the ground. I am looking forward to seeing some pics.

Have just taken a massive bathroom fitting delivery - and the plasterer is coming this weekend, which I think is a big step in the right direction. Hoping to do a Laura Ashley order tonight for Ds/Dd's bedrooms.

FritziGreenEyes · 15/08/2012 08:36

suburban Sorry to hear about your FIL and your cancelled holiday. I'm also looking for a dressing table but haven't found anything I like so far.

emo and every Have great holidays!

MrsCampbellBlack · 15/08/2012 08:41

Many, many hundreds if blog stats are anything to go by.

Portia4 · 15/08/2012 08:42

Mornng Ladies! Decam I know what you mean, it is a concern for me too.

Woke up this morning to extreme weather warnings, not good weather either!

I am loving Pinterest, but still have to pin anything! At the weekend when I had time I was able for example to look for 'white skinnies' and see loads of examples of outfits, it really has cut down on the amount of magazines that I buy.

I had a look at the Office suede ankle boots and they really are very blue.

Amber go for the dress I really like it.

As for ironing sheets, I send mine out as they are always filthy by the time Ive ironed and folded them. I'm all for outsourcing as much domestic drudgery as possible.

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 08:45

MiM and Rufus it was really good I agree. Will check out how much I've seen or is by the same writer.

Amber's links have made me want to order something but it feels like the blind spot in between seasons.

Decam it's a tough one, if you like to be low key. But I guess divide into what you don't mind people reading about and what you do.

notyummy · 15/08/2012 08:47

So glad the hospital went well MrsCB. It is so worrying when they are little and defenceless and you just want to protect them. It sounds like the staff were great though. During DDs first hospitalisation when she was 3 she was v dehydrated and they really struggled to get a vein to get the drips/IV antibiotics set up. A junior doctor tried both arms (numerous times) before stabbing away at the ankle. DD started off brave but ended up shrieking 'You are not a PROPER DOCTOR. Take me HOME daddy!!' over and over again. Funny in retrospect by awful at the time. In the end, DH asked if another member of staff could have a go. It sounds like the ones who dealt with your DD were excellent. DD is now quite used to having lines put in or injections, but is very dismissive of the staff attempts to distract her. Last year she said to the nurse 'I know what you are going to do with the needle, so don't bother trying to make me look the other way with that Where's Wally book.' Blush

We use an ear thermometer and so do all the Gps/hospital staff that we have encountered. Up the bottom may be more reliable, but is it worth the fallout..?!

I am afraid I am sniggering at the wet suit with wedges story Rufus. having said that, they can be hideously unflattering items, so perhaps something that lengthens the leg is no bad thing?!

Red - how exciting re the garden. I am def not the best person to offer advice - in fact I am reading the tips in the hope that some of it sinks in. I start every spring optimistic that it will finally be the year when I have a range of attractive hanging baskets/tubs etc.....and by July have had to admit that they are the usual damp squib.

Weather ok here at the moment. In ASOS khaki wool trousers (ok as air conditioned office) with Mango striped shirt and Zara wooden wedges.

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 08:49

Portia pin is great. I'm following a few that have loads of followers and the amount of images is incredible. I thought they mustn't do anything else but realised it's probably lots of repinning rather than searching.

suburban · 15/08/2012 08:52

Thanks for the kind wishes about FIL everyone. PiL actually live in a popular village with holiday makers so I will at least see the sea. Grin to the wetsuit rufus sounds like so much fun, I have never been on a Kerry beach in anything less than a coat and boots.

Dd also starting pre school in September but doesn't have to be dry. The lady showing me round said they would rather change nappies than clean up accidents, which seems infinitely sensible to me. She does however have to go to assembly in the main school hall very grown up eek.

Yet another reason for you to get a coil amber Wink

Love the sounds of everyone's dressing tables, will look on eBay later.

We have lots of lavender red

Happy holidays to those going away...

MidnightinMoscow · 15/08/2012 08:55

See, I have something to say now about having a coil. But worried about the lurkers!

MrsCB, that's interesting. Do you have a way of tracking how people come to your blog?

MidnightinMoscow · 15/08/2012 08:57

Oh, yes, thought of something that I can share!

Red, I have a small bay tree and rosemary plant in the garden, which look lovely and get used a lot for cookery. I tend to keep my other herbs in pots. I think lavender and rosemary looks and smells amazing together.

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 08:59

I can't imagine it's any more than elsewhere on Mn. There are loads of lurkers in general.

suburban · 15/08/2012 09:06

MiM you get scarily detailed info about who reads your blog. Exact numbers, where they come from and a link whenever somebody mentions it. 40 bum and I were linked on a mad forum somewhere where a lady had made up a whole life using pictures of 40 bum as herself Shock

It is intimidating, I just try to never write anything anywhere on the Internet I wouldn't mind appearing in the Mail Grin.

I have zillions of herbs but no flowers in my garden, so keen to hear suggestions too.

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 09:08

Do you get spikes when it's linked on here Suburban?
