Home highlights/bleach advice - is it ALWAYS a really terrible idea?!

Yo!

Right. I have naturally mid/dark blonde hair which has been highlighted on and off for about 15 years.

About 6 months ago I henna'd it. It was natural henna (ie containing none of the metallic salts that make it impossible to bleach over).

The red is amazing and beautiful and I love it, but it's giving me the heebie-jeebies because I don't look like me. It is seriously creeping me out. so I am going to go back to blonde.

I have done a Colour B4 treatment which has taken me down from full on Florence Welch to a sort of ginger copper colour.

I'm going to do another Colour B4 tomorrow.

I will then probably need to get highlights or do it myself. Does anyone here do their own blonding job? Is it always a terribly bad idea? Has anyone ever done it over natural (Lush) henna? Recommendations ever so gratefully received!

(I don't have the time or money to get a full head of highlights before I go to some parties and stuff at the weekend)

I know what you mean, I have been blonde for 18 years so my new guns brown is a big shock, but the way I see it is its only hair it will grow out so having a change is good :o

Ooh well glad the henna saga has worked out although I adore that colour of red..wish I could go that colour...Sad. My hair is fine now all the dye is grown and cut out. It's chocolate now and really shiny. But it's taking ages to get to my shoulders.. Booo! Still this time next year I should have long hair again..Grin

Wow jodie you've really been through it with your hair. For what it's worth, I love all the colours, particularly the ones you're aiming for now. Very stylish.

Thanks for your thoughts, I may pick some John freda up and give it a go underneath when my roots get too much ;-)

Can I add that put a brown semi permanent over bleach blonde is a terrible idea, the khaki took about three months to calm down but the green tinge was apparent for a good 18 months.

Tangointhenight · 11/08/2012 18:49

*mosman+ I did that and mine was fine though I went for quite a dark brown plus I got the dye in Sally's as opposed to using a home dye kit!
