White Vest Hell

Really, I do not think I am asking the earth...

Going on holiday next week and really, really need a white vest top. Like this, but white and a bit shorter as I want to wear it with a 50s style skirt and tool long and it will spoil the flare:

www.asos.com/Chinti-and-Parker/Chinti-and-Parker-Soft-Rib-Vest/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2177927&SearchQuery=vest%20top&Rf-300=1944&Rf-700=1000&Rf900=1621&Rf-200=2&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Green

BUT, and I am coming to realise this is a big ask, although I do have a rather nice bra to wear under it, I do not want to advertise this to the world.

So please, please, tell me where I can get hold of a white vest top that is actually thick enough so that my underwear isn't on perma-display??? I have looked on Asos and TopShop and their vests are so thin you'd have to wear about them about 3 thick to get decent coverage...

I have just bought a lovely one from White Company, although it is quite long in the body. I've bought it to wear as a layer with skinnies, not sure how well it would go with a skirt unless you are quite tall?

SpeckleDust · 06/08/2012 10:00

H&M

SpeckleDust · 06/08/2012 10:01

Ah, just realised you want it a bit shorter - the H&M ones tend to be long.

IDismyname · 06/08/2012 10:05

Try Kettlewell Colours:www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/

newmum001 · 06/08/2012 10:08

Primark have them for £2 ive got loads of them and they are thick enough so any colour of bra can be worn under them. I love them! X

ovariantryst · 06/08/2012 10:23

Thanks! Will try H&M - Kettlewell have sold out of small and the nearest Primark is 60 miles away (live in Cornwall so shopping choice limited...)

Out of stock online, but maybe in store?

Damn, JL one looks ideal. Nearest John Lewis is Exeter though... can't really justify a 150 mile round trip for a vest :) (yet... just wait till I've been looking for another few days and am desperate).

Sainsburys.

MadAboutHotChoc · 06/08/2012 12:16

TU have these but are long. Have you tried M&S?

pebspop · 06/08/2012 12:17

a nude t shirt bra shouldn't show through even if the material is a bit thin.

don't wear a white bra under white tshirt/vest.

ujjayi · 06/08/2012 15:59

JL deliver though so why not order online?

blibblibs · 06/08/2012 16:02

Sainsbury is great, just a shame they only have black and white

wishiwasonholiday · 06/08/2012 16:04

H & m are not very fast delivery if ordering online when I've ordered it's taken a couple if weeks.

OddBoots · 06/08/2012 16:10

I'm sure I have seen some in George in Asda, not sure how thick/thin they are though.

SunWukong · 06/08/2012 16:34

Uniqlo had some nice ones a few months ago.

Marks and Spencers boys department, ie school vests. Great quality.

FishfingersAreOK · 06/08/2012 20:33

Sainsburys are long but the length shrinks quite a bit if you tumble dry...at 4 quid a pop worth a go?

CFSKate · 06/08/2012 22:42

John Lewis one seems to be in stock on this other link?

DerbyNottsLeicsNightNanny · 06/08/2012 23:21

I have bought a couple of best tops from tesco over past few wks, £3.50 and thick enough for bra not to be too obvious. They have thin straps though so may not be what you want?

germyrabbit · 06/08/2012 23:40

you could try tk maxx, i got a great plains black vest from there which is very thick
