Stylish backpack

Does such a thing exist? I love bags, but need to use a backpack most of the time because of back problems, and cannot find one that looks stylish. I don't want a sports bag, but something big enough to carry umbrella, water bottle and book, with secure fastening, and preferably that lies fairly flat when in use. I'm imagining purple or coloured leather, or patent maybe? Boden did one a few seasons ago, but i didn't order it in time. Does anyone know where i can source something suitable?

personally i think leather ones are horrible and not at all stylish - i think that either you go all black and laptopy or you go for canvas retro style.

I use a hot pink canvas rucksack with lime zips from American Apparel as my nappy/hand/junk bag (I have 4dds five and under - it requires a lot of junk!). It is about the only part of me that actually feels stylish!

Bloody expensive but very, very nice in the flesh

same deal

Basically browse Ally Capellino. They're the most stylish I've seen.

Thanks everyone, still doesn't quite hit what I'm looking for. Need something I can use to go to work, tube travel, to go with office clothes. Any more suggestions?

I saw a couple of smart smallish leather backpacks in TKMaxx today. One brown, the other navy. Not sure of the make, maybe Jobis? Quite nice anyway. £40. (Of course, just because they were in my branch of TKMaxx, doesn't mean they'll be in yours, but could be worth a look).

MrsBranestawmingtovictory · 31/07/2012 02:05

This is what I mean

piprabbit · 31/07/2012 02:17

This is a bit laptoppy, but avoids being too sporty
Or something like this?
Or this is quite cute but not leather
TKMaxx bargain - also in navy

It's hard - especially as I'd worry a bit about having a decent fastening to stop someone taking a dip while on the tube.

How about this?

I LOVE Blondie Mania, I have a few if their bags. I think security-wise this would be good too, with its foldy-over top.

Myself, I often use a small messenger bag (for, say, a purse and camera) and a backpack for larger, heavier items (baby changing stuff, spare/extra clothes, a book). That way, my valuables are safe where I can see them and my back benefits from a more ergonomic distribution of weight. I'm afraid though that style comes a poor third as a consideration behind security and comfort.

Longchamp Pliage? I have one in black for my holidays. They do different sizes., different colours. Security tho on the tube -i'm not sure.

RSVPentathlon · 31/07/2012 09:24

I love mandarina duck.

Not the cheapest, but stylish

their classic design
cute
smart
my favourite but £££
half price if you feel brave

KandyBarr · 31/07/2012 09:55

More in the Ally Cappellino style, I'm slightly obsessed with Sandqvist backpack and messenger bags at the moment.

Watching with interest as also have back problem and have been told to carry only rucksack styles. Currently toting ageing Longchamp Le Pilage backpack.

Love the Mandarina Duck bags, also Longchamps and baggu. Blondie Maria nice, but wrong colour and v expensive, might have gone for it if different colours. Thanks so much for all the suggestions, got a few possibilities now.
