Clear nail varnish that lasts?!

StressedToday · 29/07/2012 20:47

I like to wear my nails short with a coat of clear varnish. I've never found a pale neutral/ natural colour that looks good on me.

Normal clear varnish seems to start peeling or chipping within hours! What am I doing wrong? I'm just a normal SAHM with small children, so do no more than average work with my hands.

Any thoughts? I don't know whether to try a different brand or perhaps to try a gel/ shellac manicure? I don't know much about those either, though.

Help!

Wipe your nails with nail polish remover before polishing they must not have any oil on the nail plate.
Wear gloves when you wash up.
What brand are you using? Try revlon topcoat. It's hardy.

Thanks. Will try that.

I currently have a No7 one on the go. Revlon isn't too pricey is it?

Sally Hansen, called hard as nails, in clear or tinted pink but still look clear great hardy stuff rarely chips about £5 a bottle

Agree re wiping nails over first with remover. Sally Hanson ace. Second hard as nails. Or try Sally Hanson insta-brite. 2 coats. Dries v quickly and stays on my nails for at least 4 days. Makes the definition between whites and pink bit a little clearer on my nails.
