Can anyone recommend a hairdresser please and help me make my mind up?

Looking for a friendly hairdresser in the Durham/Newcastle area... central Newcastle (within half an hour walk of Central Station). I haven't had my hair cut since February as I couldn't afford it and I thought I would get it done before my first job interview, which I found out yesterday will be next week. I have gone to two different salons since I moved up here and had such a disappointing (and expensive) time that I've been getting my hair cut when I visit my parents (small rural town down south, costs £12). I can't really afford more than £30. I looked at East Durham College but the salon is in Peterlee and I can't get there easily. Any recommendations welcome!

The easier part is, I can't decide whether to have my hair completely cut off into a bob, which I know suits my face or whether to just tidy up my shoulder-length hair into something a bit more professional (my hair grows really fast). From a practical perspective a bob would be easier to manage just for an interview but I like the ease of tying my hair up every day. Is there something that is considered more professional (this will be my first non-service job)? I know first impressions are really important. The other aspect is that, if I can tie my hair up, I wash it every other day and it looks fine/nice but my hair looks vile if it's short and not washed every day. If it wasn't an important interview I would try the Mumsnet haircut.

Can you tell I'm nervous and over-thinking this? Grin
