Sandals with tights - style sin?

I have hideous legs - very pale, eczema patches and varicous veins and so I don't feel inclined to show them off in all their bare glory.

Would love to wear sandals with dresses/skirts though, can I wear tights as a cover up? The toe bit - will it look naff? And what tights would you recommend - assuming I can get away with this.

I would never wear nude tights with them. If you're going to do it wear obvious black or coloured tights, then it looks v cool in my opinion Wink

HappyGirlNow · 24/07/2012 09:23

Or if ou really want nude, go for nude fishnets, those will also look cool..

Thistledew · 24/07/2012 09:23

You can only get away with tights with sandals if you have closed toe sandals!

You could wear footless tights- like very thin leggings.

mrsbrooks · 24/07/2012 09:35

Yes I agree only wear skin colour tights with closed toe sandals. What about black leggings and a good cover up foundation?

FaintingGoat · 24/07/2012 09:38

Excellent thread, been wondering this myself.

A light fake tan covers most things!

SpringGoddess · 24/07/2012 10:23

The last time I applied fake tan it was a complete mess...I exfoliated, moisturised etc but I was blotchy all over....which given the mess of my legs already it wasn't a good look, I scrubbed for bloody ages - dh the bugger was very amused. The fake tan i would imagine would make my blotchy eczema stand out even more. That was 10 years ago and I used lancôme, I haven't gone there since.

Long floaty skirts are my answer.
I care not if they are fashionable, they are cool and cover a multitude of sins.

Not maxi length as no one makes maxi dresses for gnomes.

noddyholder · 24/07/2012 10:24

Fake tans are a lot better now I think not blotchy

SpringGoddess · 24/07/2012 10:30

Noddy which fake tan do you recommend. Just remembered I had a St Tropez spray tan done about four years ago on my upper body only...it looked great for a day and then it wore off in blotches, it looked so obviously fake - is that just me or is that what happens everyone?

L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Airbrush spray - I cannot recommend this fake tan enough! Amazing colour and absolutely fool proof to apply! Grin

SpringGoddess · 24/07/2012 11:54

I have found one maxi dress I like, can't find a long skirt I like and I have looked and looked. Cropped pale trews do nothing for me either - my thighs are on the generous side.

Nooooo, just get Sally Hansen airbrush Legs, it's about £7 on offer in tesco at the minute and is fab! I'm very pale and don't like fake tan, so I buy the nude shade and it's amazing, looks smooth and hides my yucky bits, and washes off with a lot of scrubbing

Dahlen · 24/07/2012 11:56

What about toeless tights like these?

optionalintegration · 24/07/2012 12:03

I've done it with black tights and I think it looks kind of cool, but you might have to have a bit of an edgy style in general and maybe it only works on the under-30s.
I'm very very pale and now if I ever need to have bare legs I either use a pale wash of instant tan (eg.Rimmel), dust my legs with a big fat bronzing brush, or...my personal favourite...simply use some of my face foundation on them, mixed with a bit of lotion. This last option looks really natural but takes the edge off the freaky whiteness.

Gillybobs · 24/07/2012 12:59

Second vote for Sally Hansens Airbrush legs. Spray on, rub in..done.

anniewoo · 24/07/2012 13:38

Even I can do Sally Hansen and if u read my previous threads re fake tan that is a bloody miracle Grin

bonzo77 · 24/07/2012 13:43

Toeless tights. You can get them in m&s. Just make sure that they are the ame colour as your toes, and your sandals cover the bit where your toes poke out.

janmoomoo · 24/07/2012 16:09

Wot bonzo said. They are a great solution for me.

SpringGoddess · 27/07/2012 11:59

Gave the Sally Hansen airbrush fake tan a go this morning - very, very pleased....actually I can't believe how much easier this stuff is to previous encounters with the old fashioned type that takes a while to develop streaks a colour. To be clear, no streaks and it has covered my varicose vein sufficiently.

A world of new fashion possibilities has been opened up for me - I can now bare my legs!!!!! Ok so the sun has nearly gone but I'm one happy lady today in my bare legs.

Thanks to all who replied.
