Not at all stylish or beautiful... but can anyone tell my why my hair leaks dye everywhere?

I've been dying my hair myself for more years than I care to think about. The last couple of times, despite numerous washes, the dye comes out all over my bedding, towels etc. WHy? My bedding is cream . It's as though my hair wants to be mousey brown grey au naturelle and it won't allow the dye to stick to it. The last lot kept coming out for weeks, although it was a different brand to usual, so went back to my usual this time and it's still doing it. Is there anything I can do?

Have you changed conditioners/shampoos/hair masks recently? There could be something coating your hair that's stopping the dye from taking properly? I'm no expert though :)

I don't think so no, maybe it's changed formulation? Not even the sun will bleach the dye out of my pillowcases :(

You Deffo rinsed it it properly?

Try washing loads of times with Head n Shoulders - it strips dye really effectively. Hopefully it will take out the excess and still leave you with some dye in.

Maybe you've got loads of new greys and they just aren't taking the colour?

I think so cybbo yes, i've washed it a few times since I dyed it and I stood under the shower for ages.

Head n Shoulders, ok, will give it a try, thanks. Not sure about the grey overload, it's been many many years some time since I last saw my natural hair. If the badger stripe at my parting is anything to go by, you may well be on to something :(

I used to be friendly with a hairdresser who'd came across this problem quite frequently. Mostly it's to do with poor condition of the hair, so that the cuticles are not closing properly and therefore allow the dye to leach out. You can buy colour locking shampoos to help with this, and any deep conditioning treatments will help, too.
