Women...stop wearing these!

Right these

www.cottontraders.co.uk/womens-shoes/suede-slip-ons-ladies-comfort-fit/invt/aq10484/

Seriously they are a fucking crime. Was at a party today where one of the mums was wearing them. She may has well had a dog walker fleece on. There are more stylish slips ons out there. STOP IT!! If you don't know what frumpy is, well you do now!!

OP posts:

Spagbol, I have to say I think you may be in the danger zone with those. Though I know nothing about fashion and could be entirely wrong...

SugarBatty · 22/07/2012 08:29

But why should she post on feminist board when she is posting on style and beauty? Why would she care what anyone on the feminist board has to say?

GrapesAnatomy · 22/07/2012 08:30

Try getting stylish shoes for wide feet (and forget all the wide fitting stuff next etc, they either aren't wide enough or they are like boats and slip off at the back). I can't wait to stop trying and embrace the suede slip on.
For the moment I wear a lot of converse lookalikes (not converse, too narrow ) birkies and one or two pairs of ballet shoes that I can shoe-horn my feet into.
I love shoes but I feckin hate shoe shopping.

NoVegBeforeSkeg · 22/07/2012 08:31

Teehee! My grandma wears these.
She is 81, so that probably gives a good guide to how 'stylish' they are Wink

SpagboLagain · 22/07/2012 08:31

Oh dear. I knew I shouldn't lurk in s&b.
They are just so comfy, I thought I could get away with it as they look a bit nautical....

SugarBatty · 22/07/2012 08:33

Grapes, have you tried stretching spray? I think it only works on leather, I used it on narrow ballet pumps and wore them round the house with thick socks and it really worked!

AmberNectarine · 22/07/2012 08:34

SugarBatty the feminist board thing was a joke, hence the winky smiley. I don't particularly care, it's just the sort of thing those posters would have a field day with. Personally I think one should dress for oneself, and to hell what others think.

OneHandFlapping · 22/07/2012 08:35

Hmmm. £15.....

SugarBatty · 22/07/2012 08:42

Apologies Amber! On my phone the 'winky smile' looks like a 'sceptical sneer' Blush

HandMadeTail · 22/07/2012 08:42

What about these?

SugarBatty · 22/07/2012 08:44

The name 'trek mule' says it all, why would anyone go on a trek wearing a mule.

DollysDrawers · 22/07/2012 08:47

Blimey there are some horrible comments on this thread. The shoes are hideous, I would most certainly not wear them but I cannot understand why the OP would see someone at a party then run home to post a photo of their shoes on a forum, inviting ridicule. Just not nice.

The whole 'make an effort for your DP' thing makes me particularly rolly eyed as I think that everyones idea of making an effort is fairly subjective. She may have thought she looked nice (as her husband may have).

I can't abide when people think their opinion on something is the only one that matters.

PerryCombover · 22/07/2012 08:58

I didn't know there were shoes as ugly as those cotton traders
Also, the sketchers aren't good

Not because of your husbands (Ffs) but because they are fuck ugly

PlumSykes · 22/07/2012 09:11

Dh's cousin wore those shoes, and a coat covered in mud, TO OUR WEDDING. I judged. Harshly.

She explained she'd been 'doing' the horse. I don't even know what that means, but since they live about 200 miles from us, am fairly sure she hadn't been doing it immediately before the ceremony.

ThePigOnTheWall · 22/07/2012 09:22

Spagbol. While those aren't a crime against shoemanity like some of the links on this thread, I'm afraid they are still vile. Sorry

GrapesAnatomy · 22/07/2012 09:57

SugarBatty - no I haven't! So it does work then? I have a pair of shoes that I love but can't wear, I could try it on those Smile Do you buy it at shoe shops?

SugarBatty · 22/07/2012 10:02

Mine was from an old fashioned cobblers type market stall that did heel repairs etc, think it was only about 3 quid. It just stretches the leather I think. Marvellous stuff!

perplexedpirate · 22/07/2012 10:26

Whether we like it or not, our appearance is often the first message we send to anybody. What we wear is a foreword to what we're going to say, that's why so many workplaces have a dress code.
If you're going to dress in cotton trader shoes and elasticated slacks, go to it, but there's no point thinking that you'll be sending the same message as someone dressed fashionably, cos you won't.
For further reading I'd recommend The Thoughtful Dresser by Linda Grant, which decodes the issue brilliantly.

And the shoes on the thread are abominations. AngryGrin

I like them (except I don't weather suede - vegan). They look comfy!

ChunkyPickle · 22/07/2012 10:47

Those arre frumpy? Nooo - these www.cottontraders.co.uk/invt/aq10842 are frumpy, those are perfectly fine (and I remember buying a similar pair when they first came out about 10 years ago)
