.....but we are still Stylish (if not Beautiful).

Hello Living - anyone who approves of my stylish purchases is welcome to stick around. Grin

This evening DH decided to dip a toe into Facebook, and set up an account, ostensibly to befriend and keep a gentle eye on DS, who has recently joined. Three hours later he was still hunched over the laptop, gathering friends, chuckling at school photos and looking up ex-girlfriends. Hmm I fear I have lost him to the Dark Side. Meanwhile, his friend request to DS has gone conspicuously unanswered. Grin

MI - tomorrow will be tough; hope your friend gets through the day OK.

Thinking of you today MI.

CV Grin re FB request going unanswered - my DD was only allowed it if I could be her "friend"! Since then, I have had a few requests from her friends!

MrsS I know what you mean about it being easier without your DH - I have that problem of readjustment to having DH around all the time every school holiday. Perhaps it won't be so much of a readjustment now I am working full-time too Sad!

Had a bit of a stressful morning. The school bus has not been stopping where it is supposed to - it still stops on the roundabout, but right over the other side, which involves crossing another five roads and adds about five minutes to the journey. As this seemed to be a unilateral decision by the driver, who swore blind he had been told to stop there by the school, I queried it. School were surprised, and said he should not be stopping where he was, and would be told that from today, he would stop where he is supposed to. We got to the stop, and he was in his usual place, right round the other side. I made the DDs wait where we were supposed to, and he eventually came round and collected them. We were a bit stressed, and not entirely sure he wouldn't just sail past, but he did arrive, five minutes late, with a face like a smacked arse.

Dull, I know, and trivial, but we are the only people who wait at this stop, so it's not as if we were inconveniencing anyone else. And it's not the first time we've had issues with this driver - the other night on the late bus, he decided he wasn't going any further and hoofed all the children off the bus halfway into his route.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/09/2012 07:42

How did that happen? Confused

Blackduck · 03/09/2012 07:42

Oh MI much strength for today Sad

bigTillyMint · 03/09/2012 08:49

MrsS, don't let the bus driver get his own way - he's probably a lazy arse and it's easier for him to stop in "his" place. Complain, complain, complain! In the nicest possible way of courseWink

livingfortoday · 03/09/2012 08:54

MI sending my regards Sad

MrsS 8 have a theory about some types of people like that bus driver, it's quite judgey, (hoicking maternity pants up to under bosoms) that they underachieved and lead unfulfilled lives, envying and despising others so they gain control by being jobsworth types to bolster up their own sense of self importance. But how inconvenient for you and dds, keep on at school if he does it again.

I dont know where to start with my wardrobe and AW purchases. I'm ashamed to admit that I'm getting nervous about the whole school gate thing for going back on Thursday ds in year 2. I don't normally but some cliquey stuff happened end of last term and I just feel like I want to stride in and out with confidence knowing I look good.

If you were making over someone's wardrobe and whole look what's the basics? I hope it's ok to ask you here as some of the other s n b threads I find a bit intimidating like the make up counters in large department stores Confused

bigTillyMint · 03/09/2012 09:10

I'm hopeless at a capsule wardrobe - I just buy what I like and then find stuff in my wardrobe to go with it! What body-shape are you and what do you feel comfortable wearing?

I did overhear a Personal Shopper woman one time in Debenhams who sounded very good - would that sort of thing help?

hi all, We currently have no internet hence my silence over the weekend (not that I shouldn't have been unpacking boxes anyway...) We know have a large ardboard mountain in the dining room, but the living room is liveable and ds is happy with his room (which needs completely ripping out - but as he is happy we'll leave it for now...!) We have now, as you do, discovered all the bodged jobs and have a builder coming on Wednesday to discuss a number of things (including a new bathroom).

Did school uniform shopping on Saturday and realised that ds goes on a residential next week for which there is doubtless a kit list I haven't yet seen!!
AHHHHH!

Dog has puked a number of times - clearly his way of marking his territory, and is a tad fedup that he can't get up to our bedroom (result! :) )

Re children and independence I liked this article.... 13 tasks

Oh yes BD, I read that article. Lots of good ideas.

I agree with ruby on the school run outfits - just wore whatever I was wearing that day (including gym kit with no make-up) Noone here seemed that bothered either. However, I have seen the judgey brigade in action at my friend's DC's primary in Wagsville. Yuck!

livingfortoday · 03/09/2012 10:36

ruby yes that used to be my take on the school run too. I'd often be in whatever in the am but tidied up by the pm pick up! My DH has gone back to work today too, but he will be home tonight, tbh I find it easier when he's not here sometimes (after a 10day staycation) so I'm enjoying peace and quiet. Hope it's not too serious with your family and you have someone in rl to talk to.

blackduck yuk! Dog puke! Oh you do seem like you've got your hands full domestically, builders, boxes and uniforms. Just think when it's all done and you can shop for lovely finishing touches and be in time for Christmas? Hope you don't find too much bodged stuff.

btm I'm very nervous about personal shoppers the idea of someone picking out my fat clothes.....

I would say I'm and hour glass shape as I'm quite evenly proportioned top and bottom. Bust is a size 40DD and a size 18 on the bottom.

I wear skinny jeans in dark ink blue, I feel I getaway with them as I am 5'10.
I also have some straight leg jeans that I think a wide for straight legs but they good (I think) I have read a lot about parsnip legs and trying to get away from denim but for now I'll keep them as regular features.

I would like to wear a nice day dress this season, not with leggings but with tights and boots. I don't think I can wear ankle boots with my kankles will knee length boots still look ok? I've picked out two dresses.

in deep marine

And this to wear with black straight legs and some heeled dolly style brogues

Gosh I never used to question purchases and now I literally get my knickers in knots Smile any comments welcomed.

oldqueenie · 03/09/2012 10:39

hi living! Dare I say that whilst this is a lovely place to hang out it's not really a "15 multi-tasking items that will transform your transitional wardrobe" sort of place... but you might find the odd s and b gem in amongst the chat... what sort of stuff do you like? where do you like to shop?

livingfortoday · 03/09/2012 10:48

Thanks old I tried starting a thread in s n b but it went no where, i gues I just lack confidence as I'm not a skinny high end buying clothes horse so when I saw coins post as I mentioned ^ I thought it might help.

I generally shop at next but realise this is entirely out of habit and monsoon.

I have dresses in my wardrobe from coast and monsoon I have never worn, or don't fit. I should get rid shouldn't I?

This is awful I dreading going down that school on Thursday because of nasty superficial judges people. I want my Pre pregnancy brain back and my confidence Shock well that's out now! Grin...

bigTillyMint · 03/09/2012 10:49

Living, all those links look nice.
I wear dresses all the time - with opaques and knee-high (well they only ever seem to reach my calves) boots in the winter.

oldqueenie · 03/09/2012 10:58

much sympathy and apologies too.. didn't mean to be the least bit off putting. I'm far from being a prolific poster on here so I have to confess to not having seen CVs post re purchases of which you speak (but will have a look sharpish). How awful for you re school run thing. If you hang around here you might find help with a fuck off don't care attitude as much as the perfect polo neck. I myself have teenagers so am beyond the school gate thing (and also so old and crepey that while I'm interested in clothes and looking good I no longer care what most people might think of me).

oldqueenie · 03/09/2012 11:03

God I'm crap today. Realise I xposted with you earlier living and hadn't seen your links. Both the top and dress look good to me!

TheReturnOfStropperella · 03/09/2012 11:27

Living, I like the stuff you linked to. I am v. jealous of those tall enough to shop in Monsoon. Grin

Gawd, I hate all that school gate crap. When dd was at first school, it never even occurred to me that I should "dress up" for school collection/drop-off. I have been known to turn up in full oilskins (bright orange and about 3 sizes too big) on rainy days, gardening clothes - complete with mud on face and twigs in hair, paint-splattered overalls, well, whatever really. A few years on and the school catchment has changed quite radically and there are now a bunch of prissy mc try-hards who label-spot and bitch about those of us who (shock, horror) don't quite fit with their world view. As they judge me heartily for being a) too old and having an even more ancient husband, b) going grey and not caring and an enormous long list of other petty things, I now tend to use the car to collect ds on rainy days and brush my hair occasionally. But that's as far as it goes. They can fuck off with their views on my trouser choices. Grin Grin And do I judge 'em back? Er... yes.

Cremolafoam · 03/09/2012 11:40

Living I love that w/s dress in the navy. Would be gorgeous with knee boots or leggings . As someone with similar norkage I have been told to go for v neck as it is more flattering . However the shape of that dress is def v flattering for ur shape I reckon.
I don't do school gates any more- also found them
Intimidating... But when I had to I used to wear dark glasses adopt an air of extreme importance and use my mobile phone as a way of not engaging the in crowd.always look like you've got somewhere more important to beGrin

Mrs S- grr at bus driver. We have a security guard not dissimilar where I work. He makes a note of everyone using the wrong door. His life is very smallSad

Loved the guardian article - its brilliant. Wish I'd thought of it when dd was youngerGrin

oldqueenie · 03/09/2012 11:51

top style tip living... a good coat! (No one can tell what might be underneath).

Cremolafoam · 03/09/2012 11:54

Oh yes a good coat is a life saver for general scruff bags like me.Grin

bigTillyMint · 03/09/2012 12:14

I was just thinking that a good coat is key.

Not that I ever followed my own advice on the school run!

livingfortoday · 03/09/2012 13:26

at nice posts oh I'm a bit hormonal too, I have my visitor. Back soon just having lunch (last). Smile
