We now have a fridge, which has loads of nifty draws and slots, but I am already getting a tad Angry with the fact it bloody beeps at you if you leave it open... I have enough hassle in my life without the bloody fridge wading in. MrsS your dh sounds like dp, he wouldn't think to put the washing on either (mind you said machine is in the middle of the utility still because a. Dp has no idea how to plumb in a washing machine b. I had a hissy fit because I couldn't see how the outlet pipe was going to work with their plumbing (cut the pipe BD))
Creme, yes Dp is an academic dotchaknow and uses this to excuse his general lack of commonsense Grin
Living room is actually, well, liveable...dining room is still a stageing post for boxes, Walls are randomly hung with stuff ;)
Boy and dog return today Grin Grin

Cremolafoam · 31/08/2012 09:07

Lol Bd - I have a dp like that too. I generally work Saturdays and still come home to piles of washing/ an unloaded dishwasher and countertop of dirty plates/ crumb laden chopping boards from random toast making and a vast expectation that I will make dinner as well as having done a days slavery with aresy Saturday customers who have lots of leisure time to mess me aboutSad

He also has to have praise for grass cutting / ironing one shirt.
Having said that he is a jolly whizz when it comes to aerospacial technology or Linux programming. Lucky me!

We are looking at
English And .....
Courses
Making a list. Does your dh teach Creative writing?

I have a beepy fridge-freezer, currently with no fridge door handle. Long story, but I got a tad irritated when speaking to the customer service to sort it out given that we had paid over £1000 less than a year ago. DH seems to think he has now organised the engineers to come on Tues when I will be back at work full-time, so DC will have to superviseConfused

I also have a non-practical DH (though has slightly improved over the years of me nagging), but his skills lie on the sports fields rather than in academia!

ruby, rather you than me!

I am currently waiting in for some bedroom furniture to be delivered. DH has taken DS out on his new road bike (I found it second-hand and it was going to be a Christmas pressie, but we decided to give it early as he wants to cycle to school) - he is in seventh heaven!

Blackduck · 31/08/2012 10:20

cremo - no not creative writing I am afraid....

Ruby don't do it :) I am actually stunned at how little I miss the old house, but I am not 100% this is the 'right' house for us.....ho hum, early days I guess.

Dp is focussing on ds's room today so at least it will feel familiar. Off out for a lovely Italian tonight - yum :)

herbaceous · 31/08/2012 10:30

Oh no ruby. Sad I was getting a bit excited!

My DP is moderately practical, though takes it very personally when a screw doesn't go in straight, or something goes minorly wrong, resulting in a strop. But he's very good on the domestic front, doing a big clean of the house (except the bathroom, for some reason) every Saturday morning.

I in fact rather enjoy DIY, and did up my own flat single-handedly, so often just get on with it myself. I particularly like putting flat-pack furniture together. And the garden is totally my domain, so I do all mowing, weeding, planting, etc.

After a three-hour (!) meeting with a bank the other day we've been approved a new mortgage, meaning we can borrow loadsamoney to do up our kitchen. I'm thinking Ikea, with posh taps.

I keep searching, but get no offers other than the closing ceremony. Which might be quite good, I guess.

I'm kicking myself. I went to the Olympic park, and thought then that I must get some paralympic tickets. Dithered about whether to take DS, what evenings DP might be able to come, blah blah, as there seemed to be loads of tickets. Then, suddenly, there weren't any.

herbaceous · 31/08/2012 10:40

So... I don't really mind what I see! Would love to get into the aquatics centre, or the stadium.

In the car, currently in a traffic jam on the Antwerp ring road, and DS has just picked three nits out of DD2's hair Guess what I'll be doing on my first night home?

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 31/08/2012 13:22

AIBU to be a bit annoyed with DD1's friend and her Mum? I have offered to take this child, plus the DDs and a friend of DD2 to Disneyland tonight, to see the parade and the fireworks, and to do a few rides. Quite a nice treat for a Friday night, no? I have had non-stop texts from the mother, saying that her DD has come to school in shorts and it is going to be cold at Disney tonight. I have suggested that she drop jeans off here, but she claims that she can't. She also cannot get to the school bus as it goes slightly too far out of the way for her. I have offered DD2's new Gap jeans, which should fit, but she "does not think her DD will want to wear another child's clothes." I think she is expecting me to say I will go and collect jeans from her, but I am working this pm and my view is that she and her DD have got themselves into this predicament, it is up to them to sort it out. I have also offered warm tights to go under shorts and leggings, but this does not appear to be acceptable either. I don't - quite - want to say that if this can't be resolved, and she is not prepared for her DD to have cold legs, then don't bother sending her, but DD1 would be very disappointed as well.

herbaceous · 31/08/2012 13:35

Christ. She sounds like Terrible Cunt Mum, from a classic AIBU thread. I say 'tough tittie'. You're doing her daughter a massive favour, and she is being a lazy arse.

motherinferior · 31/08/2012 13:36

MrsS, stand firm. And frankly any girl that age is going to be wearing another's clothes with aplomb.

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/08/2012 13:53

I'm not sure that the child would wildly object to wearing DD2's jeans. DD2 may object to her new jeans being worn, of course. I think it is just the mother being a bit precious. (The mother takes the child to have facials, Brazilian blow dries and to have her eyebrows waxed... she is 13...)

But really, if you know your child is going to be out late, then it may well get cold, and you dress them accordingly, don't you?

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/08/2012 13:56

Oh. Apparently she has no hoodie either, just a T shirt. Have said no problem, we can lend.

bigTillyMint · 31/08/2012 14:15

MrsS you seem to know them allGrin She is clearly mad if she spends all that on beautifying a 13yo. DD/friends often swap clothes - I would be very grateful that you had sorted it out without me needing to do anything!

Furniture has come, but DH didn't say yes when they offered to unpack it so now we have one chest of drawers which turned out to be slightly damaged and a mountain of packaging in the garden. And guess who has to sort it all out, as I ordered itAngry

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/08/2012 14:29

Yes, BTM. I quietly despair at times. Grin I don't understand what the difficulty is.

DH says that most of my friends seem to be mad, religious or both. Hmm He doesn't have any friends, so I can't comment on his. Grin

The house is much tidier and calmer without DH...
